CCTV4: China flown military aircraft to confront foreign jet (seemingly F22) near Chinese ADIZ

U.S. F-22 stealth fighters fly over S. Korea in show of force toward DPRK
SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Four U.S. F-22 stealth fighters flew over South Korea's airspace on Wednesday in an apparent show of force toward the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) recent nuclear test and rocket launch.

The nuclear-capable U.S. fighter jets flew low over Osan Air Base near Seoul at about noon time, according to local media reports.

The F-22 stealth fighters, which made a sortie from an air base in Japan, were escorted by four South Korean F-15K fighters and four U.S. F-16 fighters.

Two of them are set to return back to the air base in Japan (close to ADIZ of East China Sea), while the remaining are reportedly scheduled to stay at the Osan Air Base for the time being.

Those F-22s were carrying fuel tanks and RCS enhancers. You can see both in this video at 1:40. F-22s are highly unlikely to be in their full stealth configuration in East Asia during peace time.

I'm pretty sure we can see a Luneberg lens in this screenshot I took:

Add to that the drop tanks and A2A rails... yeah, they wanted to be noticed.

These Raptors flew in a maximum visibility configuration. Not exactly a major coup to have seen it on radar.

I am skeptical at chinese claim due few reasons...

For example when its about radars, Gripen C/D radar upgrade which isn't AESA, but has eletronics/back-end that is powerful to be used on AESA radar and processing of informations, upgrade for 2017 will detect:
0.1 m2 at 100-120 kilometers
4-5 m2 at 300-350 kilometers

As you can conclude that over longer distances the detection degrades significantly as further the signal goes.

F-22 RCS is far lower than Eurofighter Typhoon which at best has 0.1 m2 RCS...

500 kilometer range even for this newest chinese radar I have doubts that it could detect RCS that is smaller than a bird.

I found it fishy simply by understanding Chinese, the supposed news is from a Hong Kong Media Outlet called Oriental Daily, a notorious tabloid that was once exposed for faking an obit.....

Well....

Please, folks, ignore the "seemingly" part.

Thanks, I couldn't recall the name of those RCS enhancers.

So the Chinese detected a plane which the Americans wanted them to see, seems like a great achievement.

No prob... and man:o:. I never realized how big the Raptor was until I saw it side-by-side with an F-15!

Oh look, drop tanks and a Luneberg Lens:coffee:. With those the Raptor has an RCS the size of a school bus.

Japanese pilots flying F22:cheesy:?

No, they, South Korean pilots, flew along side US forces who departed Kadena:

The United States has deployed four F-22 Raptor aircraft to South Korea in a show of force after North Korea's recent rocket launch. The fighter aircraft, arguably the most advanced in the world, flew from Kadena Air Base in Japan to South Korea.

Before landing at the Osan Air Base they conducted a flyover in the vicinity of the border with the communist North. Joined by US and South Korean Air Force F-15 Slam Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons...

The South Korean aircraft are out of sight. Their pilots are not.

You can clearly see the ROK Air Force patch on the pilots in this screenshot from the video posted above - at 2:23

Those are South Korean pilots, not Japanese.

Just shows that US stealth tech isn't as great as people think and Chinese radar is far more advanced than US military sycophants would like to believe. Make all the excuses you want but China isn't just catching up but it's probably already ahead in certain areas. US better get used to not having things all their own way when it comes to China.

There is nothing so called super-duper. F-22 in Korea for what? for NK? Only for show-off.

which chinese air craft can challenge the raptor??

According to Taiwanese source, F22 was found by Chinese JY-26 phased array radar tracking and separating target with high accuracy with long range up to 500 km.

JY-26 UWB Radar is very Deadly Radar, Last time I heard in Chinese Military Forum.
JY-26 UWB Radar is Successfully tracked America’s F-22 stealth fighter jets above South Korea.

I have No doubt that JY-26 UWB Radar can track U.S Stealth Aircraft over East China Sea (Chinese ADIZ)

If the news is true and some China radar can detect F-22 when flying close to China sky ... F-22 isn't a threat to China from U.S, when radar detect them then missiles incoming ... the fact is really a sad news for U.S Airforce.

Yes, I hope the news is true. With China Military Radar Technology right know, it's Possible to happen.

Btw, Type 052C Destroyer China Navy is also can Track and Detects Stealth Aircraft using "Half-Wavelength" resonance in Type 517M VHF Anti-Stealth Radar

It was an open secret that stealth can be detected, especially for country who work on stealth. The game had always been for stealth fighter to launch its target before getting detect and use supercruise to escape the scene. This is why the ability to supercruise is very important.

The CCTV4 (govt news) and PLA daily all mentioned a helicopter from Chinese destroyer flown up towards the foreign jet. So that makes more sense after your post, thanks bro.
