Sometimes one wonders how such a large country is run and who really runs it? Arundhati Roy calls India, “An Upper Caste Hindu Corporate Republic”! One would have thought that she may have been saying this in anger but an examination of various economic and political organizations reveals that she is 100% right. This has been already done in detail by Aakar Patel. The live mint, an e-paper of the Hindustan Times group carries an article in its April 8, 2017 edition by Aakar Patel titled “When will the Brahmin-Bania hegemony end?” The article which was first published in 2009 gives a detailed picture of the people who are really running India. It would be interesting to quote the facts given by Aakar Patel. According to him, India is run by Brahmins and Banias only. Brahmins, Banias and Jains altogether constitute less than 6% of the population.

Aakar Patel states thatat the time of independence, India was politically run by a Brahmin (Jawaharlal Nehru) whose mentor was a Bania (Mahatma Gandhi). The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh was a Brahmin (Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant), the first chief minister of Gujarat was a Bania (Jivraj Mehta). Madhya Pradesh was run by a Brahmin (Ravi Shankar Shukla), Rajasthan was run by a Brahmin (H.L. Shastri), Kerala was run by a Brahmin (E.M.S. Namboodiripad), Punjab was run by a Brahmin (G.C. Bhargava) and Assam was ruled by a Brahmin (G.N. Bordoloi). In 2009 when the article was first written, only one state was run by a Brahmin that was West Bengal run by Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Incidentally, Shudras who are wrongly construed to mean untouchables are in reality peasants (Patels) and constitute more than 50% of the population.

In 2009, most of the states were politically under the control of Shudras. Andhra Pradesh was run by a peasant Christian (Y.S.R. Reddy), Bihar was run by a peasant Kurmi (Nitish Kumar) and Gujarat was run by a peasant from the Teli/Ghanchi caste (Narendra Modi). Haryana was run by a peasant Jat (Bhupinder Hooda), Karnataka was ruled by a peasant Lingayat (B.S. Yeddyurappa), Kerala was run by a peasant Ezhava (V.S. Achuthanandan) and Madhya Pradesh was run by a peasant OBC (Shivraj Chouhan). Maharashtra was run by a peasant Maratha (Ashok Chavan), Rajasthan was run by a peasant Mali (Ashok Gehlot), Punjab was run by a peasant Jat (Parkash Badal), Tamil Nadu was run by a peasant Vellalar (M. Karunanidhi) and Uttar Pradesh was run by a Dalit (Mayawati).Even though, the Shudras mostly control politics but the backbone of the country, the economy is now fully controlled by Brahmins and Banias. Regarding the hold of Brahmins and Banias on economy, it would be interesting to again quote Aakar Patel.

“The Sensex comprises the 30 largest traded companies of India.ACC is run by a Brahmin (Sumit Banerjee), Bhel is run by a Brahmin (Ravi Kumar Krishna Swamy), Bharti Airtel is run by a Bania (Sunil Mittal), Grasim and Hindalco are run by a Bania (Kumar Mangalam Birla). HDFC is run by a Bania (Deepak Parekh), Hindustan Unilever is run by a Brahmin (Nitin Paranjpe), ICICI Bank is headed by a Brahmin (K.V. Kamath). Jaiprakash Associates is run by a Brahmin (Yogesh Gaur), L&T is run by a Brahmin (A.M. Naik), NTPC is run by a Brahmin (R.S. Sharma), ONGC is run by a Brahmin (also called R.S. Sharma). Reliance group firms are run by Banias (Mukesh and Anil Ambani), State Bank of India is run by a Brahmin (O.P. Bhatt), Sterlite Industries is run by a Bania (Anil Agarwal), Sun Pharma is run by a Bania (Dilip Shanghvi) and Tata Steel is run by a Brahmin (B. Muthuraman). “Punjab National Bank is run by a Brahmin (K.C. Chakrabarty), Bank of Baroda is run by a Brahmin (M.D. Mallya) and Canara Bank is run by a Bania (A.C. Mahajan)”. “Of India’s software companies, Infosys is run by a Brahmin (Kris Gopalakrishnan now and Narayana Murthy and Nandan Nilekani before him). TCS is run by a Brahmin (Subramanian Ramadorai). Wipro is owned by a Khoja (Azim Premji). Khojas are Shia of the Sevener sect, converted from the Luhana trading community (same caste as L.K. Advani and M.A. Jinnah)”. “India’s two largest airlines are Kingfisher, owned by a Brahmin (Vijay Mallya) and Jet, owned by a Bania (Naresh Goyal)”. “Of India’s mobile phone firms, Reliance Communications (Ambani), Airtel (Mittal), Vodafone Essar (Ruia), Idea (Birla), Spice (Modi) are owned by Banias. BSNL is run by a Bania (Kuldeep Goyal) and Tata’s TTML is run by a Brahmin (K.A. Chaukar)”. “Cricket in India is run by a Bania (Lalit Modi) and before him it was run by another Bania (Jagmohan Dalmiya)”.

“Of India’s steel companies Essar is owned by Banias (Ruia), ArcelorMittal is owned by a Bania (Laxmi Mittal), Ispat is owned by Banias (Mittals), Jindal Steel is owned by Banias, Bhushan Steel is owned by Banias (Singhal), VISA Steel is owned by Banias (Agarwal). State-owned SAIL is run by a Bania (S.K. Roongta) and Lloyd Steel is owned by Banias (Gupta)”.

“Of India’s cement companies, Ambuja is owned by Banias (Neotia and Sekhsaria), Dalmia Cements is owned by Banias, Ultratech and Vikram Cement are owned by Banias (Birla) and JK Cement is owned by Banias (Singhania).Hindustan Motors is owned by Banias (Birla) and Bajaj Auto is owned by Banias”.

“Media in India is almost entirely controlled by Banias and Jains. Of the two largest English newspapers, The Times of India is owned by Jains and the Hindustan Times is owned by Banias (Birla). The third largest English paper, The Hindu, is owned by Brahmins (Kasturi Iyengar family). The Indian Express is owned by Banias (Goenka). Zee TV is owned by a Bania (Subhash Chandra Goel). Of the two largest Hindi newspapers, Dainik Jagran is owned by Banias (Gupta), and Dainik Bhaskar is owned by Banias (Agarwal). The Agarwals also own Gujarati daily Divya Bhaskar. The largest Gujarati newspaper Gujarat Samachar is owned by Jains (Shah). The largest Marathi paper Lokmat is owned by Jains (Darda). Rajasthan Patrika is owned by Jains (Kothari). Navbharat Times is owned by Jains and Hindustan owned by Banias (Birla). Amar Ujala is owned by Banias (Maheshwari)”.

“Old economy, new economy: All economy in India is owned and run by two castes. The Brahmin used his monopoly on knowledge and the Bania used his high-trust culture of trade to become dominant. Their skills are world-class. Given the realities of capital formation, it is difficult for other castes to catch up soon”.

How is such a minuscule minority running such a huge country of the millions of poor without any massive rebellion from them? Interestingly, the present trend of heightened Hindutva using religion to declare India a Hindu Rashtra gives the clue. Here the saying of Karl Marx that “the Religion is the Opium of the poor” fits appropriately! It is being practically used by the rich in India to keep the teeming millions of the poor down under! But one wonders how long can this deception last? One day the poor will definitely reclaim their rights. Incidentally, that trend has already started!

It's not miniscule. Brahmin plus bania is probably 10%. That's 130 million people.
Nice try but making up 10% of the population despite controlling 90% of top Indian industries, politics, and the media is still HEAVY overrepresentation. Its about time Indians realize who the real enemy is, it isn't Pakistan or the Muslims, we are nobodies.

I am not saying that there isn't over representation but not 90%. In South India there is almost 0% in TN, Kerala and Andhra. Only some in Karbataka because eof knowledge based industry. 130 million is a big number by any standards. Enough critical mass to make a difference You can say that they are carrying the weight of others. If the brahmin and bania were not there then india would be like Paksitan without an industry. I am neither of these groups by the way.
130 million out of a population of 1.4 billion is still very small. And why does it matter that the population of Banias and Brahmins are very low in the south? the main industries and media controlled by them are centralized all throughout India, the hegemony isn't a decentralized one. The Southerners are still living under the boot of the Brahmin overlords.

While the last paragraph is true for all South Asian societies I must mention about the "Brahmin" EMS Namboodiripad. He was a Communist and I quote from the Wikipedia page about him :
He was associated with V. T. Bhattathiripad, M. R. Bhattathiripad and many others in the fight against the casteism and conservatism that existed in the Namboothiri community. He became one of the office-bearers of Valluvanadu Yogaskshema Sabha, an organisation of progressive Namboothiri youth.

Come on Pakistanis. They are atleast working functional third world country.
They are absolutely poor. They have half of the worlds poor but they still work as a country.
Regimes arennot changed. Pm completes their term and election are free ans fair and accepted by all.
Minorities are treated badly all over the world be it india or Pakistan or srilanka or even the west....
We should look in our collar first. Jo tamsha hamara mulk hai humain to kum baat kerni chahiya india ke bara main.
In Pakistan the brahman convert muslims have now turned into our elite class. For them the masses are untouchable.
The thing is same but with different meaning.

I would disregard anything coming out the mouths of these subversive parasites, its typical of their kind to play both sides of any conflict and politics for malicious purposes as its in their nature. His "fight" against casteism was likely a rouse.

Source for this? are our military generals also Brahmin converts like you say?

They are not. They are not even the same race, genetics and ethnicity of modern day indians.

I am neither of these groups by the way.
Are you a Shudra or part of any other so called "backwards" castes by any chance? they usually tend to vehemently defend the Brahmins any opportunity they get.
You are extremely wrong when you talk these numbers . About 0.1 million Google engineers have a company which is worth half of india or 4 times Pakistan.
That's a false equivalence, that's not akin to owning and controlling 90% of main industries and the establishment in a said country.
Modi is not brahmin, neither is Amit Shah or Rajnath Singh.
The industrialists and businessmen who finance and play a big part with supporting Modi and his campaigns are Banias and Jains. The founders of the BJP are Brahmins, Modis handlers are Brahmins, Jains, or Banias. Amit Shah himself is also a Jain.
Only the finance minister is brahmin , but lady.

Controlling the finance ministry is huge.

Point stands that the industrialists, media houses, and businessman who play the role as puppet masters and play a huge part in controlling politics and India as a whole are mostly Brahmins and Banias.

Knowing that brahmin hegemony still exists in India, i know better then to open a thread where i critisize the feudal system live and kicking in Pakistan. But thats just me...

But most of us are pretty aware of the feudal system in Pakistan and how awful it is. No one denies such a thing exists, there have probably been multiple threads made on it here in the past.

I would disregard anything coming out the mouths of these subversive parasites, its typical of their kind to play both sides of any conflict and politics for malicious purposes as its in their nature. His "fight" against casteism was likely a rouse.

He was first a Socialist in the Socialist wing of the pre-Partition Indian National Congress party and later on was a dedicated Communist. I quote from the same wiki :
He was a writer and author of several literary works and his book on the history of Kerala is notable.[7][8] He described Mahatma Gandhi as a Hindu fundamentalist.

This is absolutely racist and casteist( an absolutely detestable term in india today) . The number of brahmins who are commies are mind boggling and I hate commies. The Naxalites are mostly from brahmin community. The worst leaders among them are brahmins. And they want to overthrow the state and become commie. Don't just read one sided articles that you want to hear like arundathi Roy or other jnu type tropes on this topic. It's far more nuanced and complex. Kindly immerse yourself in the details .

Why do you hate commies ? And let the JNU flourish, it is one of the last remaining sane college places in the insanity called Modern India and even there the Hindutvadi crooks are doing their crookery. Lastly, Arundhathi Roy is correct in her observation. Remember what Rahul Gandhi said - "Hum do, humaare do" ?

Only the finance minister is brahmin , but lady. She is a professional and is not very political.

You know how Nirmala Sitaraman got among the Hindutvadis actively ? In 2009 she was in the National Women's Commission and she defended the Hindutvadi group Sri Rama Sene when it attacked girls in the disco in Mangalore and she then got into the BJP. For those who don't know the matter watch this vid :

Are you a Shudra or part of any other so called "backwards" castes by any chance? they usually tend to vehemently defend the Brahmins any opportunity they get.

Why should Shudras and Dalits always support the Brahminical bigots and Hindutvadis ? Please watch at 22:07 in this discussion vid what the young Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani says about Modi and Brahminical mentality. Actually please watch the entire discussion including from the very sensible and lovely Shehla.

The current bjp is only in power for last 7 or 8 y. Before that it was mostly Congress and coalition with all communities. Yes there is lot of dominant castes, but their power is eroding. You need to understand a bit more about the india of today. I predict caste will become irrelevant in 50 years.

You are completely wrong that brahmin hegemony

Not to the extent people here claim. But its not non-existing, like you claim either

Why should Shudras and Dalits always support the Brahminical bigots and Hindutvadis?
I was just referring to Shudras and similar so called "backwards" castes, not Dalits. From what I've observed, the Shudras tend to vehemently defend and simp for Brahmins and do their bidding any opportunity they get

This comes as no shocker, if anything it actually proves the point I'm trying to make of Brahmins being subversive parasites and playing all sides of the political spectrum for malicious purposes. Also aren't most their foot soldiers and supporters Dalits?
