Still at least 6 months to go and this vaccine could have been ready by now if the government and authorities had supported it.

The manufacturer is able to scale up to 10 million doses a month and so BD could have had little worries now even with the Indian AstraZeneca vaccine export ban if the trials were successful.

Excellent news

btw, does Bangladesh have a BSL-4?

I don't know. They do have one BSL-3 rated lab that I can confirm per news reports.

By the way Bangladesh hosted the Second International Conference on Biosafety and Biosecurity in 2016. It is a regional and international hub for bio-safety education and expertise which centers around the ICDDRB, which specializes in Bio-safety among other things.

More here,

Thanks, @Atlas for uploading this great news. Below is the English translation by Google. I have made a few editing though. There may be some mistakes in editing but I tried not to interfere with the theme of this news.

Conditional approval of conditional ‘Bangovax’ ticker human trial

The approval was given by the Department of Drug Administration on Wednesday (June 18) at noon.

The Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) has given conditional approval to the human trial of the 'Bangovax' Vaccine of the domestic Globe Biotech conditionally. The approval was given by the BMRC on Wednesday (June 18) at noon.

BMRC Director Prof. Ruhul Amin said that the permission was given on conditions. If you can fix the mistake, we will allow it. Approval will be given if the conditions are met.

It is learned that with the permission of BMRC, a trial of this Vaccine will be conducted on hundreds of people very soon. Some private hospitals have been set up for this.

Earlier, it was published in the American Medical Journal that the corona vaccine Bangovax of Globe Biotech is effective in animals. The company was then awaiting BMRC approval for a human-body trial. The institution was given conditional approval.

According to the US medical journal Vaccine, Bangovax is the world's first effective single-dose vaccine made from mRNA technology that has successfully protected human cells and animals against the SARS-COV-2 virus. After the publication of this research paper, the vaccine of the Globe Biotech came up to the fore again.

Kakon Nag, CEO of Globe Biotech, said: "Rumors were spreading in the market about our vaccine. However, the fact that our research article was published in a US medical journal proved that our claim to create a vaccine is genuine.

Pre-clinical studies have shown that the vaccine is tolerable and safe in human cells and animals. Globe Biotech claims that this vaccine will protect the human body for at least 6 months.

He said the vaccine is tolerant and safe in human cells and animals. For now, we can say that it has worked 100 percent in the animal body. We can supply one crore doses of vaccine every month. If any other company wants to work with this vaccine, we can work with them. The vaccine does not require a specifically dedicated facility in accordance with World Health Organization guidelines.

As part of a clinical trial, the drug administration delegated permission to produce the vaccine on December 26 last year. A letter was sent to BMRC on February 18 this year seeking that approval.

Better late than never. We should be happy because a successful trial will open doors for export not only for this vaccine but also for other medicines produced in the country's pharmaceutical companies.

I hope the human trials will be conducted under the clear observation of WHO, and with WHO certification this vaccine can be exported to or produced in other countries.

This is a great progress but isn't it a bit too late?

There are already so many vaccines out there, why would anyone take BongoVax? Also, if this comes online next year and COVID situation drastically improves by then, would there even be a need of this vaccine?

It's better late than never. Thankfully we have learned a lesson, and it was necessary for us. You can't make a sharp sword without the strong hit of hammer!

Why should we worry about who would buy our vaccines? BD itself has 165 million souls and to vaccinate them will take at least another 16 months. We will have no excess products though I think some of the vaccines can also be exported if WHO certifies.

There are many billions of people and Western medicines are expensive than ours, no doubt. Because the labor costs are higher there.

Even if situation improves a risk will always be there until it is eradicated...if vaccine passports are implemented we won't be able to travel just by vaccinating the elderly population...this vaccine will potentially let us vaccinate our entire population..we have infrastructure to cover the entire population like we have done with the polio vaccine...another important point is it could be a stepping stone towards vaccine research and production...if we can make vaccines for other disease many African countries will become potential customers for cheap vaccines.

We need 200 million + doses without accounting for recurring doses in the future.

No one source alone can fullfill the need.

There is more than enough room for Bongavax to flourish provided it is proven to have high efficacy by the upcoming trials.

Covid is not going away any time soon
It will keep mutating and resurging around the world. Vaccine research will continue around the world to tailor vaccines for newer variants.

It is never too late for any vaccine from a commercial perspective.

I heard they will use imported syringes to administer the vaccine. Should they still be allowed to manufacture?

Amazing, Bangladesh is about to commercialize an mRNA vaccine probably the second in Asia after China. No idea how the Chinese phase 3 trials are going? Still early days I hope the trials are successful - strange name for a vaccine, BANGOVAX.

Late but welcome news. C19 is here to stay and we will need boosters until it goes away.

Hopefully the trial will be successful. BD will probably need a 1Bn dosage over the next few years.

Its unacceptable that the BAL scums worked to prevent its success.
