Bangladeshi Flag

There are many theories regarding the origin of the star and crescent. It is definietly pre islamic as it has been used by various Persian and Byzantine dynasties. Examples below.

Consequently it is said that after Mehmet Fatih conquered Kostantuniye (Istanbul), The Ottomans adopted the title of Keyser e Rum (Emperor of Rome), and adopted various Byzantine symbols including the Star and Crescent to further cement their claim as the true successors of Rome. As the period of Colonialism was coming to end more and more of the new emerging Islamic nations looked upto the the Ottomans and their Turkish successors as a source of inspiration especially due to their victories over the much hated British at Gallipoli and in their war of independence.

Thus the Star and Crescent came to symbolize Islamic resistance to colonialism and was thus readily adopted by various Islamic countries. The symbol itself has nothing Islamic about it, but it has come to symbolize Islamic might and resistance to domination.

At least we never burnt our own flag

In functional democracy no cow is too holy, so burning flag is okay if that helped some people to vent their frustration.

In flawed democracy like bd, people get jailterm for facebook posts, burning flags will get the firing squad.

I got the Answer why a Bangladeshi don't burn their flag.
Bangladesh Places Severe Penalties Against Flag Burning | Foreign Policy Blogs

The government of Bangladesh has placed severe penalties against burning the national flag. The cabinet approved the move and the parliament will debate the prospect of 2 year prison terms and a 10,000 Taka fine levied against all such acts.

The Big question why would a Bangladeshi burn his own flag and why GOB needed such law. :cheesy:

It seems the pakistani syndrome of blame the Hindus is catching up to bdians as well.
An interesting fact, first pakistani anthem was composed by a Hindu on request of Jinnah, which was later replaced by the current persian one. I guess their reason was also the same.

and who wrote sare jahan se acha hindustaan humara which you guys still sings

But It lacks a vital sign of our identity. Moon and Star.

Most of the Muslim countries have stars and moon/Islamic sign on their flag......

star and moon is not the Islamic symbol at all- nor the color green-

During the Prophet Mohammad PBUH era and later the Khulfa Rashdeen era- The Muslim armies flag was black in color with "Kalma" written on it-

Please understand that ISLAM HAS NO SYMBOL.

The crescent and star symbol in Pakistan's flag supposedly represent the celestial aims of the foundation of the country. You could read the details...they put the star inside the crescent for reasons of aesthetics, it was initially proposed outside of it!

Turkey and other countries that were born out of the 3uthmaniyuun have that symbol of the Turkish civilization with pagan roots.

Are you sure the kalimah was on it? I have read accounts of it being just a mono-colour.

The early Muslim community did not really have a symbol. During the time of the Prophet Islamic armies and caravans flew simple solid-colored flags (generally black, green, or white) mainly for identification purposes. The Prophet used flags of different colors in different Ghazwat (campaigns commanded by the Prophet) and Saraya (campaign commanded by any Sahabi). The major flag of the Prophet was known as "Al- Uqaab", it was pure black with and without symbol or marking. In later generations, the Muslim leaders continued to use a simple black, white, or green flag with no markings, writing, or symbolism on it.

Now a days, it is used for opposition, stike, band etc.

As has been mentioned the flags used by the early muslims were in just one plain colour. So for example the pan-arab colours of today, that is red, white, green and black all represent flags of various Arabic Islamic empires, white = Ummayads, Green = Fatimids, Black = Prophets (P.B.U.H) flag, and red for the Kharjietes. All of these flags were simple with one colour only. No emblems or symbols on them.

Example = Palestinian flag
