Brunei

The coat of arms is as follows: a crescent (symbolising Islam) joined with a parasol (symbolising monarchy), and two gloves on both sides. Below the crescent is a ribbon. On the crescent and ribbon are Arabic inscriptions translating as "State of Brunei, Abode of peace" and Brunei's motto, "Always in service with Allah's guidance

Many Muslims flag like to insult names on the flags even though they are not following their duties on Islamic rule. Crescent and Moon are generally perfect. i.e Pakistan.

Clearly, you are too young to understand in long history and weak knowledges. You should stop listening to some people says this and that.

Whyislam.org Forums: Where did Islam obtain its symbol of the crescent

A forum?

The star and crescent appear in combination in finds from in and around ancient Israel. It has been associated with the Moabites (14th or early 13th – 6th century BC[4]), as the symbol or symbols appear on what are thought to be Moabite name seals.[5] Crescents appearing together with a star or stars are a common feature of Sumerian iconography, the crescent usually being associated with the moon god Sin (Nanna to the sumerians) and the star (often identified as Venus) with Ishtar (Inanna to the sumerians).

It was originally used by pagans.

The reason for the moon and star is partly used to signify Islamic societies is because they use the lunar calender to start fasting in the month of Ramadan, observe Eidul Fiter and Eidul Azha on the appearance of first day of moon to establish the day of their holiday celebrations.

Stars are parts of nature that God has created and they were used in old days to determine time in nights while travelling on animals. God created star beautiful and source of light in dark nights when there was no electricity. So yes, it was used by Muhammad SAW and his followers to act as a guide and light and the great man has taught his followers to be thankful to God for such a beautiful gift. That is secret of success.

Other than this there is no significance of Moon and Star in Islam itself.

Of-course, there are some idiots out there who claim that we worship the 'moon god' because of that

See, even non-Muslim societies use it:

Yes, it is taken from Byzantines and modified and into black color over Red Background making it distinct. But the Thing is it was adopted in fifteenth century by Kastrioti family and even since then and continued to be considered as symbol of Albanian people even after they converted to Islam.

Same like we Indians where our most of the national symbols belongs to Maurya Dynasty.

Most of the countries choose their identity according to religion or ethnicity or Historical pride.
