Bangladesh Pushes back refugees from Myanmar

Not bound to allow Rohingyas in: Dipu

Dhaka, Jun 14 (bdnews24.com) – Foreign Minister Dipu Moni on Thursday once again reaffirmed Bangladesh's stance against allowing Rohingya refugees inside its territory.

"Bangladesh has not signed any international agreement to allow refugees," she said in parliament snubbing continuous calls from international rights groups and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to immediately open the border to people seeking refuge from sectarian violence in Myanmar.

"Bangladesh never signed any kind of international act, convention or law for allowing and giving shelter to refugees."

"That's why we are not bound to provide shelter to the Rohingyas," Moni said.

She went on to add, "Jamaat-e-Islami has strong links with the Rohingyas. Several Rohingya groups are active in Myanmar, who are backed by Jamaat." :what:

This rule was made by the military generals, but i think with passing time the burmese society will be more accepting to rohingyas. Just like biharis in bangladesh

You are wrong. The segragation is deeply rooted in the thinking of burma. Burmese have been bullying and killing the Rohingyas for tens of years. You are scapegoating the generals.

So even your own BD government acknowledges the links between Rohingyas and muslim extremists.

I dont think so... Its just a rumor. Rohingyas are not a mass which may worry AL that much.

Now, Avishek was right to say because there is a Jamaati link with Rohingyas, AL govt is not ready to accept more refugees. He is correct.

Can't say how reliable the news is. Anything is possible in the politics of Bangladesh!

And what's more, Jamaat is NOT a terrorist group. It is a legitimate and a legal political party.

Dude jamaat is a political party, not a extremist group. Plus AL is a rival of jamaat, they are saying this to win votes(election coming soon)

. .
Forgive my Burmese ignorance but isn't that jamat whatever party linked to terrorist attacks in Pakistan? I was under the impression they were similar to the Northern Irish party Sinn Fein. A quick wiki search reveals they are far-right. That's usually a code for extremism.
