Are ‘war-mongers’ narrating the China-India story?

This may be the best attempt by an Indian publication at a balanced analysis of Sino-Indian relations. It is quite a departure from the knee-jerk alarmist reaction that dominates the Indian media. With the spread of the Internet, more and more of China's youths are increasingly aware of the Indian media's negative and hawkish attitude towards China. Once those media reports get translated and posted on Chinese Internet forums, they only serve to create a backlash against India. This phenomenon is primarily restricted to a number of Internet chat rooms frequented by the young Chinese. China's mainstream media's coverage of India remains matter of fact and even boring at times.

Wake up the so called media that the Chinese youth read are tightly controlled by the Chinese gov't. I bet the youth don't even know what China does to antagonize India. It would be wise for both governments to acknowledge each others contributions to their own respective civilizations and society as a whole

Correction: it's "self interest". Everything, except for altrustic humanitarian work, ultimately boils down to self-interest. Mutual cooperation will only be pursued if it perceived to ultimately lead to self-interest. This concept of Asian unity is nonsense -- actually it's a code word for "anti-Western dominance". India or China will abandon Asian unity and cut a deal with the West if it provides a better outcome for that nation.

Although I do respect your opinion, I do think it is a selfish world-view.. But hey maybe its just human nature!

Everything humans do is on the basis of human psychology, whether it be individual or group psychology.

Its not that simple. Why, as you yourself explain below, it is easy to manipulate people. Many people in India(I would say nearly everyone) wanted precision strikes after Mumbai attacks. But there were other factors to consider.

Why, as you yourself explain below, it is easy to manipulate people.

Because media experts understand human nature well enough to know exactly how to shape public opinion. It is not an art any more; it is a precise science.

Many people in India(I would say nearly everyone) wanted precision strikes after Mumbai attacks. But there were other factors to consider.

Because Indian government knows what the Indian media doesn't tell the masses: that India is not the US, and Pakistan is not Afghanistan.

The article trods out the same tired views that the times does and completely misunderstands/misinterprets Confucian teaching and Chinese culture.

BUT I liked it and still hold a good opinion of the Hindu as a paper. It was very well written and interesting to read, and the Hindu rightly puts it in the opinion section. Journalistically the Hindu understands the difference between opinion pieces and factual reporting. Contrast this to that rag ToI, who hires people who can barely string a complete sentence together and is written for the lowest common dominator with no journalistic integrity at all.[/QUO

I agree with TOI but why won't you take a look at how China controls their media and internet. You have to admit it is worse than the TOI on any given day. The article states the obvious to everyone, China is not trying to make friends. It seems they are just waiting for an opportunity, who knows maybe even try to make India do something foolish so that they have a reason to retaliate.
