Indian Army had a requirement of 12 units but declaring to purchase only 5. GOI is trying to have a MII component to it. 12 is the magic number. We will soon find out how many we are getting.

One thing for sure, we are not getting S-400 that China is getting but we will be getting a hybrid of S-400+S-500. It will be able to intercept low flying aircraft, cruise missiles, ICBM and hypersonic missilles(?). It's speed and range might be increased also. If we get an upgraded version with higher speed then it will be able to take out fast flying hypersonic missiles. Taking out Hypersonic SHOULD be high on demand list, as it will be able take out fast flying ICBM, from both countries. Contract will be signed this year.

FD-2000 isn't far behind S-400. Rumor has it Pakistan already got it, in fact India's purposed acquisition of S-400 could be in response to that and if that is not true then Pakistan can get it anytime.With SAM's India is safe and Pakistan is safe, let the peace prevail. Exactly. You got it. That's what makes this procurement expensive, it not only just missiles but fire control radar, command and control vehicles, transporter-erector-launchers and the missiles.

Already said before, of course they will be anti Musharaf. And as you said, they were not aware of the actual details, Musharaf was. His claims are more trustworthy.

We will be paying around 6 billion for 5 full scale regiments (20 battalions) initially and the eventual reuirment is for 12-13 regiments. Having interacted with a Russian expert on the S-400, I know that a full scale regiment has 4 battallions and each battalion has 4 fire units and each fire unit has 4 launchers. Each Battallion is quite independent and can be placed upto 100 km away from the Regimental HQ.

Each battallion will also have a mix of missiles with some fire units deploying the long range 400Km 40N6, other deploying the 120km 9M96E2 and while some others deploying the new 77N6 ABM. With each regiment is able to deploy a whopping 384 missiles + reloads. We are looking at a significant amount of defence.

Moreso, each regiment is protected by battallion of Pantsir systems.

Good luck to any force trying to break through such a protective net, keeping in mind this is merely one layer of the net. There are other layers of Spyder-SAMs, Akash SAM, soon MR-SAM etc.

In the wake of an all out war, Pakistan can outnumber the Indian defense system by launching too many missile and fighter jet attacks, making it near impossible for the S-400s or Akash missiles to deny zero penetration in Indian airspace. Such an attack will come at a heavy price militarily and otherwise, with limited success.

Totally Idiotic to attempt plane against S 400, AAd and Akash and LRSAM. They will be shot down in Pakistani skys even before they can come close to Indian border. Writer has no knowledge in modern warfare and potential power of these air defense systems.

Implications of S-400 are mostly ABM related in Pakistan India environment. It cannot be used to impose no fly zone on Pakistan territory because it will have to be close to the border for that purpose. It cannot shot down an aerodynamic target beyond 200km which mean if deployed even 100km or 200km form our border, it will be shot upon by MLRs. S-400 has considerably large foot print which mean spotting them by spies is not going to be difficult. Only option for S-400 use is ABM shield for wide area including battle zone air defense.

Can't the MAR-1 and AGM-88 HARM be used to knock out these S-300/400? A salvo of good anti radiation missiles & cruise missiles will knock these systems out. Pakistan should invest in more anti radiation missiles and cruise missiles like SOM of Turkey and its own cruise missiles to overwhelm these systems.

Nope it can not be, Mar 1 has a maximum range of 100 kms, where as S-400 has a range of 400km and S-300 has range of 250 Kms.

A jf-17 carrying Mar-1 will shot down long before, it can come with in launching range of Mar 1.
