NGALURU: The Ashok Nagar police have issued a notice to cricketer Amit Mishra after a woman alleged that he assaulted her.
In her complaint to the Ashok Nagar police filed on September 27, the woman said that on 25th September, around 7 pm, she had gone to the hotel, where Mishra was staying, to meet him. She went into his room, however, he was not in the room at the time. He walked in a few minutes later and the two had a verbal argument.
During the fight, Mishra allegedly assaulted her. Two days later, she filed a complaint at the Ashok Nagar police station.
Explaining charges, a senior police officer said that Mishra, allegedly pushed the woman, twisted her finger and even tried to attack her with tea kettle. The officer added that section 354, which comes under purview of crime against women, has been slapped on him because he used derogatory terms and abusive language against the victim.
According to DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil, "The incident took place about a month ago and we have been investigating the case since then. We have already collected CCTV footage and have also spoken to employees at the hotel. We have issued a notice to Amit Mishra asking him to appear before us so we can take his statements as well. We have given him a week's time to do so," he said.
Patil added all the cases were cognizable, however an immediate arrest is needed for cases which has a punishment for 7 years or more. Because of which, the cricketer has been only issued notice to appear before the investigating officer.
Mishra, who is currently in the Chennai, has been booked under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).
Amit Mishra was in Bangalore during the last week of September for the preparatory camp ahead of the South Africa series.
