Most of these problems existed in one form of another in various empires throughout history so no, the only thing that is the cause of modern world problems is religion and only a fool would think otherwise.

Powerful finance industry, most likely the international use of English and having good regulators
Imperialism goes back as far as Ancient Egypt and could be found in every part of Eurasia at some point in the past thousands of years

Gunboat diplomacy is a more modern thought but Carthage used to use similar tactics against the Romans, huge navy which pretty much kept the Romans stuck to their land and no expansion which resulted in the battle of Mylae where the Romans built a large navy, slightly offtopic but using a large navy to influence others isnt new
Drugdealing, which nation doesent have drugs, local/international and various sellers from legal to illegal, even in places like Iran there are millions of addicts on local pharms

Of course, they were the world's great power for a very long time. No civilization/society is perfect. They have given the world many great, and useful ideas and technologies as well. I am not defending them... In the next 25-50 years the same will be said about the Americans. Just look at it as inherently progressive, (new technology leads to new problems, thereby creating new technology).

myanmar has the curious case of driving on right side with steering wheel on right side... as a former colony they were same as us...untill a general had brain wave...
