As a tribute to former President the late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Aeronautical and Automobile Engineering departments of city based Kumaraguru College of Technology will conduct an aircraft design contest and "Aero Modeling Competition" on October 15, his birthday.
Kalam had a 'Vision 2020 for passenger aircraft', which focused on fulfilling the needs of the Indian civil aviation industry by indigenous design of a passenger transport aircraft. To realize his dream and to take it to the younger generation this contest is being held at KCT, a release said.
The design contest is open for engineering college students to create awareness on indigenous passenger aircraft needs for the country,performing design calculations,preparing the design report and making an effective presentation of their design of the aircraft for the civil aviation industry and to bring out their innovative and creative technical skills,Dr Elangovan and Prof.C Vasantharaj, heads of the respective departments, said in a release here.
The designs would be evaluated by eminent experts from aircraft industries like HAL, DRDO and ADA and attractive cash prizes and Dr Kalam memorial trophies will be awarded to winners.
The college is also conducting an Aeromodeling Competition for Engineering College students and school students to design, fabricate and fly a paper airplane followed by a flying demo of Radio Controlled aircraft models, the release said.
