What's new

Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft by 2018

India is offering 50% of development cost. But India contributes substantially less in tech. The money India pay out is just a buy in cost to get the plane. Not purchase of technology. India WILL not receive any key technology from PAKFA. So this is in effect another MKI project.
maybe india can take over the mig 1.44 prototype and make that AMCA.

One of the reasons for less contribution is India Aero space industry is not yet matured, may be down the lane 5 or 6 years from now Indian Aero space industry will mature and can design a fighter jet from scratch. At the moment Integrating various techs bought/available with some tech. development is right thing to do.

MIG 1.44 has evolved into J20. India do not need Heavy class fighter since PAK FA and FGFA will fill that category. India needs a stealth fighter like MMRCA so they are going for AMCA.

Is this the same ex president that predicted that India will be superpower by 2012?

Everything he had predicted has become a reality sooner or later. India will be a super power if not today than tomorrow.

Adapting new approach always puzzles me ... why don't we leverage available designs and go for common parts across the whole IAF fighters in future.
We all aware that FGFA will be inducted in good nos. why don't we use it's engine, avionics and modified LCA air-frame base with single engine.

This will help us to turn around project very quickly, will have proven and common spares for operational efficiency ate reduced operating cost!!

We definitely need to get planner with vision!!

Just read that Japan and India wish to have bilateral defence relationship to develop. Why not tie up with them for the AMCA??

Because their export laws will make that impossible, even the US2 sale is possible only, if it's used for (Civil) SAR operations.

I would say we have even too much vision and need more rational thinking people.

Going through facebook, you will see that Indians are the one nationality that want their country to be a superpower.

Every national want their country to be super power. What is your point?

That is not true. If you go on facebook, you see mainly Indians that wants to be superpowers. Its an Indian thing. Look, India even made a movie about becoming a superpower.

what is your problem if every Indian want to be superpower...and why should't they want...things only come true when you have want for it...:agree:

Look at some idiot country. The day they fly a plane , they call it F 22 killer or copy sukhoi and call it batter than Su 35. The day they test some 1980 ERA missile, they call it a US career killer. These are syndromes (Though Fake) of people want their country to see super power.

Can you name that Movie??? America makes movie of attacking Mars and space craft traveling at light speed. In fact Indian movies are most realistic. It we want our country to be super power there is nothing wrong. After all we were No 1 economy of the world for more than 16 centuries out of 20 having upto more than 50 % of world's GDP. Once again we will become No 1. Many agencies such as goldman sach has predicted that. It is a matter of time. No matter what others think or wish, we are going to become military and economic super power.

Interview Dr K Tamilmani, DG Aeronautics, DRDO

Q: I understand there’s renewed Indian Air Force interest in the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project. What about the engine?

A: The AMCA engine, the technical specification of which has been derived from the IAF’s operational requirements, will be developed in a joint approach with one of the world’s reputed engine houses. The engine configuration of size, weight, performance and operability will be decided by GTRE/DRDO. The engine will be developed by Indian agencies for the IAF, with prototype manufacturing and testing support from foreign agencies due to limited manufacturing and test facilities infrastructure in India.

(Read the full interview in the Jan-Feb 2014 issue of Defence and Technology)

DT - Artical

The same BS that they did with LCA / NLCA, not considering INs requirements, not considering that the engine needs to be navalised for carrier operations too. They haven't learned a bit and apart from the issues of developing AMCA in general, the navalised version will see the same problems of N-LCA again. :hitwall:

Its close to 5 years. Also when you create one fighter second become easy. 5 year is just to come up with prototype. It takes 4-5 more years for final version.

Just look at PAKFA. We have 8 prototypes flying now still one or two more to come before PAKFA goes into production in 2016.

Yes 5 year time is ambitious but certainly not laughable. Lot of design work is already been done so its not that in 5 years we are gonna come up with a fighter. Add 2-3 past year as well.
Yeah right.......Thats what u said after Meerut abt Teja.
