What's new

After Mig-29, Naval Rafale fighter jets might serve Indian Navy .:IDRW

Fake news no Rafale M as of now as orders of mig29K are not complete and some are thinking of its successor

if they really want a next gen Mig29K then replace its engines with GE414EPE, naval version of EL-2052 with a new weapons package
What :cheesy::cheesy: GE engine on Russian Mig-29 :lol:. Aajkal kuch naya pee rahe ho kya ? But still a good idea..:enjoy:

Trust me Bro russian engines are always a trouble both in terms of spares and mantainence then why not just for research try using a proven new tech on such platforms you never know how it will turn out but what harm is in to at least give it a try ?

Sir ji, American company's engine on Russian Fighter plane is never a bad idea. If there is any nation which can give it a try it is only and only India. But still too optimistic. Russian won't allow US engineers near there jets, plus there will be a major change in the airframe to fit new engine. Plus we all know shitty the Russian jet engines are, specially the Mig-29 RD-33 are very smoky.

.
Bad move.

Better for IN to have F-35's for its Carrier than Rafale's.

Unless there is substantive Make in India component to additional Rafales. The F-35 will be a massive leg up in capabilities from Rafale's at a marginal cost increase.

Well new engines on Mig-29Ks are claimed to be improved and smokeless.

A more reasonable (and potentially cost-cutting) approach is for India to refurbish her MiG-29K fleet with AESA radars, uprated engines, software upgrades to support newer weaponry, and a new ECM suite. India would theoretically bring its naval fleet to MiG-35-level capabilities and gain invaluable experience in refurbishing combat aircraft, all at a fraction of the hypothetical price.

100% agree there.

Correct Mig 29K shares similar cockpit, and new engine for Mig 29K is not the same as the Mig 29 and 3D TVC could be added by the respective OEM plus Zhuk AESA is available post 2007 and some member who think to replace it with the american GE engine, should know that its not so easy to just change the engine, without changing the structure of the plane, and then the whole aerodynamic test wrt to the weight distribution have to be done, with FBW law, and India don't have IP for this bird.

Given the price, I'd gladly take F-35C over Rafales any day.

Good but F-35C will not come alone, it will come with CISMOA, BICA etc and without it, it won't have all the capabilities of 5th Gen warfare.

That's just for IAF. Indian Navy will also be buying Rafales for ACC and ground base fleet. Total number of Rafales will be close to 300..

@PARIKRAMA, your source is a good source.:cheers:

Highly doubt it my guess 189 + 40 Rafale M

.
I still don't understand why people think IAF wil go for 126+63 Rafales, when the MMRCA deal is scrapped. At max IAF will induct 36+18 fighters, why should we go for these birds in heavy number if they cost $ 110+ million for single piece and there is no full TOT. If the airforce of France doesn't increases it's number in their inventory, then why should we ? 54 are enough, and to fulfill the 42 squadrons for IAF keep producing MKIs and LCA.

Because IN need to fulfilled 200 aircraft requiments for it IAC-1 and IAC-2.

I was replying to @knight11 where he said 189(IAF) + 40(IN), which I highly doubt. Because buying 189 jets from France at $ 110+ million is just too expensive. Instead of that why not to invest the money in LCA and MKIs, may be Rafales are best multi-role fighter jet but if we are not getting TOT then 54 should be the last number.

TOT is mystical word although we get 30 % offset in India by France
