What's new

A sole international market for China's J-10 fighter jets is taking shape

.
Four of them were overhauled in Ukraine back in 2012. BAF is in a dilemma on whether it is worth spending any more money on upgrades considering the life left.
Maintenance has been a struggle for them. You never see more than 4 flying together since re-commission in 2007.
pretty sure this was debunked... all of them were overhauled...

I think you are mixing up debunking of @asad71's claim of only two units being operational with what I am saying.

I am not claiming any of the 8 are non-operational but they do have significant down time.

4 units underwent major overhaul in Ukraine in 2012. No further major upgrades have been performed since due to BAF's indecision.

BAF had called a tender for overhauling the other four last year but ended up not proceeding. They have taken the tender invites down but here's a post from @The Ronin capturing it:

Now the bit below is my speculation: The ones that were overhauled in Ukraine probably do the bulk of the flying, for logical reasons. You can see in the photo below that 4 of them have inflicted significantly more grass burns than the others.

eh no... there is a dude on facebook who has made exhaustive documentation of the crrent status of each airframes... the tender you believe is for overhaul is actually for the entire fleet... (well 6 of them, minus the two seaters) which includes spine extension... AESA radars, glass cockpit etc... but as you know that tender has been pulled... on average each of BAF's mig 29s have around 850 flying hours on clock
without life extensions they'll last 2200 flight hours 400 more can be achieved with third overhaul... but upgrade options include options to increase lifespan to 4000 flying hours

850 hours only on clock?!

The pilots will not be combat ready in this case as it takes 150-200 hours of training each year to give pilots world-class training.

My already low-level of respect of BAF has gone down even further, not that it can go down much more.

.
I think J10's are an excellent choice for Bangladesh. Another good
choice would be the Saab Grifen it is similar to the JF17 thunder,
light weight and low maintenance cost.

There were two sets of tenders called in 2018.
The tender you are referring to was called after taking down the tender for overhaul of 4 units. I can clearly remember the first tender mentioning 4 units.

None of them went through.

Can you link the FB posts you are referring to?

I am not sure about @Michael Corleone's numbers but the flying hours on logged on actual fighters by BAF pilots on average are indeed paltry..

You often see senior pilots flying Yak-130s just for the sake of keeping hours logged.

You often see senior pilots flying Yak-130s for the sake of ensuring they keep logging hours.

This paints a terrible picture for BAF.

It’s irrelevant what type is chosen for the new fighter if the organization is in this sort of state.

Oddest looking situation I have seen in years. F-7BG's rotting under open sky while micro-buses have tin shed luxury. :disagree:

And have these idiots never seen a pressure-washer?? To remove the moldy paint and mold from the cheap cement on the roof and tarmac??

This paints a terrible picture for BAF.

I can bet each senior AF administrator's bank account has millions of dollars but they can't be bothered to at least manicure the grounds with a few cheap garden implements like Hedge-trimmers or Mowers. Even Indians get their gardeners out with cheap manual garden tools to maintain the grounds...

Hai-Rey Bangladesh!!

Decades of foreign exposure for this BAF d*mb-f*cks has not brought any realization. Entire BAF seems to be run by semi-educated A$$holes! Low-lifes will always be low-lifes comfortable living in garbage environment.

I am totally ashamed and have lost hope for these incompetent BAF nincompoops winning any war against anyone if their facilities are in such shambles. Any Govt., AF facility in SE Asia or Middle East has better maintained grounds for their jets (Forget USAF or NASA).

Excuse my rant but incompetence like this is indicative of how f*cked up the actual organization is.

It’s sad man.

Bangladesh has so much potential.

But we are our own worst enemies.

Specifically for the BAF.

Why such an apparent discrepancy between the BN and BAF in terms of competence?

.
BAF needs to be disbanded..... and started over again....

Perpetuating this failed organisation harms national defense.

these are average figures for the 6 single seaters... while the twin seater is in its 1000s but i can't give you the exact number....
i asked about the same concerns and i was told pilots go to malasiya and india to keep their clocks high...
idk if you remember but there was a video back in 2017-18 where a mig pilot had this insignia of clocking 3000 hr on the thing

do you know Sibghat sheikh... that lad had done an excellent compilation a year back. you can contact him for the details

i don't recall that but if what you're saying is accurate then what else can we say about incompetent fuckwids?

It seems BAF is intent on buying FM-90 SHORAD and Yak-130 trainers. Note about the features of FM-90 below. BAF is not an independent military organization unlinked to the GoB. BAF is certainly buying all these craps as instructed by the govt. It means BAL govt does not want to build any teeth in our armed forces that may escalate tension with Burma that may also become a boomerang to the BAL govt.

"The FM-90 missile system has a 25km radar detecting range, is capable of attacking three targets simultaneously by employing three different guidance modes and has anti-missile ability against ultra-low-altitude cruise missiles, air-to-surface missiles, and anti-radiation missiles at a distance of 17km.

The missiles are capable of cruising at speeds of up to 750m/s and have an operating range of 15,000m to all targets at an altitude of 15-6,000m, along with a 70-80% single-shot hit probability.

The system has been installed with assistance from the Chinese Government".

Why such an apparent discrepancy between the BN and BAF in terms of competence?

Because end-platform investment per end-operator.

Think of what the cost is (capital, operating, training, maintentance, command+control everything incl) of a ship/crew versus aircraft/pilot(s).

You can simply improve a Navy much quicker than you can an airforce given the shared cost and quick sustained return on investment (i.e a low base "breakout" effect can actually materialise). Airforce it requires a paradigm level more for both sustained capital needed and leadership/vision/dedication to get there....you cannot really benefit from a low base effect so much in short or even mid time span.

Also why you can improve an army much quicker than a Navy too.

There was never any plan to raise 10 squadrons. Another piece of hoax propagated from the usual source.

In 2013, AM Ziaur Rahman revealed BAF's "aspiration (not even goal)" is to have six fighter squadrons in service in total (old+new) by 2030.

The way BAF function, have they ever looked serious enough to work towards procuring 10 fighter squadrons?

That immature internet clown has too big of an ego to admit reality.

I do not know who you are referring to but BAF published forces goal 2030 explicitly mentions the goal of 10 operational squadrons. Link is somewhere within this thread.

I would agree BAF inaction suggests it was not worth the paper it was written on.

That include trainee aircraft as well. I think we have 4sqdn trainee

Show me an official release which mentions 10 fighter squadrons.

Forces Goal 2030 is BAF official publication. As i said link to it is somewhere in this tread. Go find it yourself if you are interested.

There is no publication mentioning 10 fighter squadrons. Don't mislead people with BS.

I am not misleading anyone..... its here because thats where i read it...others have also read it.....i did not post it.....if you can not be bothered looking for it that really is not my problem.

I have been paying close attention to defence-related news and developments over the last couple of decades, both through research and personal contacts. If BAF ever made such a tall claim, trust me I would know!

I know very well who first propagated this BS ten fighter squadron hoax on the Bangladeshi internet. Some members in this forum simply keeps regurgitating the rumour hoping it becomes true.
The interview with AM Rahman was held in 2013 in which he revealed the six fighter squadron "aspiration". Tried retrieving the article but could not. Will post if I can find it.

BTW, Forces Goal 2030 is not a "publication". It is a vague, open-ended aim of the forces to modernise by 2030. Due to constraints of funds and choice of manufacturers, the goal is constantly evolving with time for BA and BN while BAF twiddle their thumbs.

I will be very happy if we can have 10 squadron of plane, but I see no progress atm. So maybe it's hoax you are right.

Oh my god!! This is hilarious!! LMAO!!:rofl: :omghaha::omghaha: Oh man i can't stop laughing after reading @Al-Ansar's thread here and finding those old thread. Thank god that those photos weren't removed. I am the one who noticed the 10 squadrons news in a article's link provided by @Species vai and shared it in BAF's thread. Even i had doubt about the 10 squadrons before finding it.

Original article is in this link. @Al-Ansar is this the article you are looking for? :- https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/delta-force-keeping-bengali-skies-free.276730/

The funny part is @Al-Ansar is saying with so much confidence that he has been paying close attention to defence-related news and developments over the last couple of decades, both through research and personal contacts but he clearly forgot that he was the only one who even quoted and replied to that thread i posted and labeled it as BS from SAK/BD Military like he usually does explicitly/implicitly about most of the Bangladesh defense news.

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/bangladesh-air-force.168817/page-362#post-10886690

The report by Dr Sean Wilson was published on Air Force Monthly/Air Force Daily. Another funny part is he went to page no #329 to find my old post but didn't notice this one on #362.

@Al-Ansar we are not your bosom friends so that we have to lie/joke with you. So at least when @mb444 vai said he saw the news you should have believed him. It's not our job to sit here with proofs to correct you every time. So stop saying the same crap every time, lumping everything with BD Military/SAK and attacking/blamming people directly/indirectly. You have some serious anti-BD Mililitary/SAK syndrome. Get some treatment.
