- In his recent public address, Prime Minister Imran Khan has offered to mediate the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The previous government led by Nawaz Sharif first declared neutrality in the Yemen crisis in 2015, but subsequently decided to send troops to Saudi Arabia in 2018 on condition that they will be deployed only within Saudi Arabia. The premier’s offer to mediate has bolstered the role that Pakistan can and should play in the Muslim world.
- Pakistan has carried out a ‘track II process’ and is in touch with all stakeholders in the Yemen conflict.
- Pakistan is mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia in an effort to end the conflict in Yemen, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced in a televised address Wednesday night. “We are acting as a conciliator between the two countries to end the war,” he said. The idea for Pakistan to mediate was first floated by Khan in a previous trip to the kingdom soon after his election as prime minister, according to Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan’s information minister.
- He further said Pakistan calls for unconditional restoration of the legitimate government of President Abdurabuh Mansour Hadi and withdrawal of rebel forces from the territories seized by them, including the capital Sanaá.
- Pakistani politicians from both the governing coalition and opposition have joined the foreign office’s condemnation of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia for the first time. Pakistan on Sunday condemned a drone attack by Yemen's Houthis on Saudi Arabia's Abha city.
Just read that we have divide among us over our denial in Yemen participation which is now coming back to us so GCC is not favouring Pakistan against India.
I have to say that;
Yemen issue was between two Muslim countries (a different case to Kashmir V/s India) and Pakistan openly supported restoration of legitimate Government and condemned Houthis attack on Saudi Arabia.
