Majority of the people on the show are Persian Jews, an appropriate title for the show would have been Jews of Sunset!
So the muslim Persian Americans are radically different from these people?

The problem is not getting in touch with Iran but to help the Iranian government which the US considers its enemy. He sure is a hero for the Iranians. But The US is just treating him like an enemy spy should be treated. Iranians really cannot complain.
You can only be a traitor if you consider the country you are living in as your own country. If you don't, then by definition, you are not a traitor.
Yes it is a sense of differing morality I guess. I know that Indians in UK keep their religious values and such, what I meant was that they usually term themselves as British when asked "where do you come from?" Where as Iranians and Middle Easterners as a whole usually give their indigenous country's as a response. Again not trying to say it is like this with all people, just something I have observed.

He gave up his Iranian citizenship for an American one. Helping Iranians or working to preserve Iranian culture is one thing. But helping the Iranian government to launch a satellite is not really acceptable. Especially when the US has an embargo on Iran. He is definitely a hero for Iranians in Iran. But you cannot expect the US to not punish him.
Yes and no!
But what I want to point out is that Persian Jews are loyal to Israel and represent their own Jewishness and their own culture too.
I know some Iranians might not know this, but having visited Southern California numerous times and being friends with some Persian Jews, I have seen that Persian Jews are a very tight and connected community and their culture, religion, rituals, and sense of belonging is very different than Muslim Persians, atheist Persian, and Nationalist Persian!
He didn't give up his Iranian citizenship! No Iranian gives up their Iranian citizenship to become American! lol
Modanlo was convicted of conspiring to violate the government’s long-standing embargo that prohibits U.S. citizens from directly or indirectly doing business with Iran. Prosecutors said Modanlo tried to get around the embargo by using a front company in Switzerland to conceal the involvement of Iran and funnel money to his bank account.

This is what the article says :
He probably has dual nationality.
Is it possible to have an Iranian and American citizenship?
Iran doesn't recognize dual nationality, but it's definitely possible.
@iranigirl2 are you a Persian Jew, Persian Muslim, Persian Atheist, or Persian nationalist?
I heard Iran would take away his other passport if he visited Iran?

I'm a Persian Muslim and a very hardcore Nationalist!
and these two go hand in hand, as Prophet said loyalty to your home country is a duty of every muslim!
and All Iranian-Americans have Dual citizenship! Most Iranian-Americans travel to Iran at least every other year! They don't ever run into any problem!
You born here or America though?
That is why its a problem have dual citizenship because then there is a problem of dual loyalties which becomes a bigger problem when the two countries are hostile to each other.
