Mohammed Ali used to punch better!

so why dont you bring him here? we'll strap him on to the most-obsolete mig-21 we have and let it fly,
we'll see if can punch or not!

PS - dont complain if mig crashes

That always depends on the proximity between the conflict parties! When the US, or allied forces in Libya attack from carriers, or air bases far away, BVR combats are more likely. In our situation instead and the distance between Pakistan and India, makes WVR combats much more likely. I read once on this forum, that the closest distance between an PAF and an IAF airbase is just around 30Km. If that is true, the fighters are in WVR as soon as they take off and that could easily went into dogfights, when we think about a real war scenario.

Nopes!!

Even in case of India and Pakistan, BVR will be the most likely scenario. The effective range of a missile is what counts not the maximum stated range.

So an R-73 the range is 19 mi but the operational range is 12 miles.
R-77 the range vary from 43 miles to 83 miles, depending on tail chase or face to face.

With the advent of awacs, the planes will fire missiles at standoff ranges and then use their respective awacs for terminal guidance. Why switch on ones radar and become a target when the Phalcon and course correct and send missiles their way :)
