3 held for online abuse of Kashmir girls rock band

Another youth has been arrested in connection with the online abuses and threats to the all-girl rock band of Jammu and Kashmir.

Irshad Ahmad Chara, resident of S.D. Colony, Batamaloo, was arrested late Wednesday night during a police raid to apprehend him.

Tariq Khan, was apprehended from Bijbehara, a town in South Kashmir, and Rameez Shah was also arrested from Ganderbal in central Kashmir on Wednesday night, police sources said.

Jammu and Kashmir Director-General of Police Ashok Prasad, who is closely monitoring the case, has directed stepping up of patrolling in the areas where two of the three girls of the band group reside.

Police have started tracking down the Internet Protocol addresses of the 26 users whose comments, out of the total 900 posts on the band’s Facebook page, were found abusive, officials said.

They said the delay of three days in lodging the FIR was due to large number of posts on the Facebook page of Kashmir’s all-girl band ‘Pragaash’ that took time to get scanned.

A case in the matter has been registered under Section 66-A of IT Act and Section 506 RPC (criminal intimidation) in the Rajbagh police station in Srinagar.

A member of the band had on Wednesday said they decided to call it quits as they respected the decree of Kashmir’s grand mufti who found singing un-Islamic.

“We respect the Mufti sahib who said it (singing) is haram. We respect the opinion of people of Kashmir also. That is why we quit,” she said, adding that the band was not disbanded because of online threats.

The DGP has requested all central agencies to extend support to apprehend all those who had hurled online abuses at the band.

Bullshit.

Does not have the spine to go after the mufti who has declared victory openly at the girls decision to relinquish music, but go after anonymous teenagers on the internet.

Its going Over Board . No need to arrest anyone for online comments .

If you have to Arrest , Arrest The Mufti .

Mufti has the right to express his views. He did not threaten or abuse the children.

But those who did...hang the baastards. India has no place for extremist islamists..Pakistan can have them.

He did not threaten the girls.. Only issued Fatwa.. What should be the reason for police to arrest Mufti??

This kind of fatwa's are indirect threats issued to by pass the law. By issuing rulings/ expert opinion in public He was putting pressure on the girls to stop playing music.I am sure the police can find one or other section of law to book the mullah. We know the intention of that fatwa, so to stop their clever move to escape by sighting freedom of speech, freedom to preach and practice religion etc, Police should use the other clause in the law.

why not unleash AFSPA on the Mufti's bum???

and somedays back members here were asking for revoking of 66(A) of IT Act

Mufti has his democratic rights . He has only given advice to the band (Right to bark). So practically the mufti cant be arrested in this matter however he can be warned by the state government not to make such statements in the future .

If he is arrested for issuing a Fatwa, then the all the clerics in this country should be arrested.. They are threatening people one or another ..

good.. then again they need to go to the root cause of this evil. This mufti is running a private shria court & issuing judgement based on his interpretation of the law. Omar Abdullah govt or for that matter any political leadership is spineless to go after this self appointed guardians of Kashmiri awam.
