What's new

27 million out of schools

Yah Seiko,

Forget about Riaz bhai for a moment. please.

I have a question for you.

Can you help explain just one thing.

How come almost all of the indian posters on this thread are posting negative comments.

How come?

Fauji, with respect, I am not criticising your country or anything like that.. I was just mentioning some options to reduce this drop outs.. You can check my posts..

Off all the threads, indian posters should be extremely careful about posting on a thread about "education".

There will be 100s of silent Pakistanis watching you guys expressing your fine opinion about Pakistan.

And if

they all see that Indian education has produced mostly those who are negatively biased against Pakistan.

They will not take home a good impression about India or Indian education.

Is that the "real" intent of educated Indians.

I cant talk about others.. As for me, these children are the future.. Our generation is so lost with the hatred with each other.. I want these kids to have a better education so that they can differentiate good from bad..

Is that so?

Is it the result of INdian education that Pakistanis (the sons of soil in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and KP) will always reamin Maleechas in the eyes of majority Indians.

Is that so?

will we always be the "drunk druggi good for nothing cousin"?

Is there any hope for improvement of views and stereotypes?

I have no idea what Maleechas means.. But as I said, our generation is so lost with the hatred against each other, we do not have much hope.. But we can take steps to rectify this by giving proper education to younger generation..We can teach them about our common history.. Our mistakes.. That the people in the other side of the border are not monsters..

As I said earlier, 27 mil kids are not out on the streets, hungry, and selling drugs. They are in some sort of training system. perhaps car-mechanic, perhaps tailoring, perhaps famer, perhaps carpentars. But most of the Indian posters refuse, utterly refuse to see the light. Why?

peace

It is fine becoming a car mechanic or a tailor, but what if that student is brilliant in studies and have a potential to be great!! I am not saying that every one is an Einstein or Newton but is there are chance that out of that 27 million, there should be some students who have the potential to devalop a medicine that can cure a dangerous disease or who can find a breath taking discovery??Not everyone of those students are going to be an Engineer or Doctor but sure there are lot of guys who would have been a doctor or an engineer or a scientist which will help your country..

PS: Mate, I am from a state which have 93% literacy.. I have seen what education can bring to the minds of people..

The state has the highest Human Development Index (HDI) (0.790) in the country according to the Human Development Report 2011.[3] It also has the highest literacy rate (93.91%), the highest life expectancy (74 years) and the highest sex ratio (as defined by number of women per 1000 men: 1,083 women per 1000 men)

Anyway its offtopic but just mentioning it to you.. I am sorry that you think I was criticising your country..But I stick to the point that, we should give free lunch to the kids along with free education to control this dropouts.

I am waiting for PTI's educational emergency. I am also hoping that PTI will come up with a solid policy against terrorism and will work to eliminate the top leaders of the Taliban. The prime concerns of Pakistanis today are corruption, terrorism, law and order and finally the jagirdaraana nizam. These issues must be dealt with with an iron hand and it is hoped PTI will play a prominent role in bring peace to the war ravaged province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Finally as far as education is concerned we are far behind and have one of the lowest literacy levels in the world. We need to eliminate corruption. According to reports there are already 25,000 ghost schools in Pakistan which are only existant on paper. That means the literacy rate may be much lower than the 58% announced by the government.

@Aeronaut @Awesome @nuclearpak If I had to dream up one suggestion that would help us all, it would be for Nawaz Sharif to increase the education budget to 5%, and appoint Imran Khan as the Minister for Education, with a mandate to set the children on the correct path to a proper education.

The best thing that could happen, but what are the chances of that happening?
PMLN's education reforms program has been designed by Khawaja Salman Rafique (as per Saad Rafique on a PTV news program) and he (salman) has been continuously working upon it for last 10 months for refining the policy.

Look guys, we all talk about education (and of course morn the lack of it) but do you guys really think that educational policy would start working overnight? For a country with 60% of population below poverty line and that too 20% living in extreme poverty. Has somebody considered how government would force poor parents to make a trade off which would pay at least after 13 years (Matriculation). And importantly how much of our children would be willing to make such a trade-off for themselves? Furthermore, we still don't know how much of these children would drop out of schools. So even for a primary focused education policy we at least need 10-15 years to monitor the outcomes and then tweak the policy. I don't know where most of my countrymen reside (in Eutopian world) and believe all the hu hu la la brought forth by media.

Thank you, but let us see how that policy is implemented and funded during the next five years. That would be more important to judge the results.

In my personal view, firstly we need to bring these people out of poverty artificially (by the means of BISP or rozgar scheme whatever) to soften their need for trading off their child's education with child employment (since many of poor families don't send their children to schools because they consider their children to be an earning resource.). Once we have reduced the poverty line to a target level (say 30-40%) only then the incentives of government would start to work. Even as we speak, education till matriculation is free in punjab at least (I think a similar policy prevails in KPK) but the schooling hasn't picked up. I mean why parents are not willing to send their children to schools when they don't have to spend on their child's fee, uniform and even books? I have hardly come across any research which have highlighted the causes of lack of schooling, how much of each income class's children are left out from schooling etc. Pakistani Intellectuals and Researchers are mostly good at beating about the bush. No wonder we don't see much of Pakistani stuff on credible international platforms because our intellects like to see and interpret the issues from their drawing rooms

India has the dubious distinction of being among the top ten on two very different lists: It ranks at the top of the nations of the world with its 270 million illiterate adults, the largest in the world, as detailed by a just released UNESCO report on education; India also shows up at number four in military spending in terms of purchasing power parity, behind United States, China and Russia.

In terms of 'purchasing power parity' India's GDP is third largest in world. India can afford spending little more on defence.

commendable, however let me ask you. a rural family of six (average) how can it be brought out of poverty by doling out PKR 1,000/-per month as per the BISP program?. do we know how long PKR 1,000 lasts these days? - it was a complete waste of resources to the tune of 139 billion of public funds. if these same funds were spent reviving the 'ghost' schools of Sindh and ensuring education for these children who have no future (at this time), to provide them with technical education, a skill so that they can earn a honest wage and keep their heads high instead of this perpetual begging bowl syndrome created in the name of a corrupt leader BB.

Furthermore, we still don't know how much of these children would drop out of schools.

That is what I touched upon in my post on this thread, failures also need to be accommodated somewhere. There was a program on GEO which showed a school do exactly this kind of stuff. It was in Tribal Areas I think.

Agree with the rest of your post, the affects of the policies will take a long time to come.

Thats why I didn't restrict myself to BISP as means to artificially bring them out. For example, to encourage female education, Govt of Punjab introduced a monthly stipend of 600 Rs for every student aside from free education, books and uniform. We need incentives like this which can soften the trade-offs and thus motivate families for schooling of their children.

Quick answer is "yes"

However it will be naive to think that all of them are on the street busy "castrating dogs". Running around selling hash and weed.

Oh bhai logo!

Majority of these kids are getting trained in the "informal" cottage industry.

We just need to organize this informal sector and it will take very little money.

British style "Formal schooling" is good for producing baboos, peons, clerks, and high end professionals.

We should have mixed this style with German style "Apprenticeship schools" years ago. But we did not.

Why?

Many of our baboos, and intellecutals who were trained in British style system, CAN NOT think beyond baboo-ism, and clerky.

These "Brahmins from British style education" tend to look down at anyone who works with his own two hands.

Sort of a throw back to the good old Shudra class treatment for anyone who does the "low-class" jobs of being a car-mechanic, carpenter, black smith, etc.

While a boy trained as car-mechanic is all set to earn his own livelihood at 18.

the British style educated boy is begging for more money when he is 18.

And yet the "Brahmins from British style education" look down at car-mechanic as a lowly "untouchable"

even when he is a productive citizen of the society.

And the same "Brahmins from British style education" makes someone a hero if he scores high on A-levels.

We must view education from the POV of a farmer, a black-smith, a carpenter, a mechanic, a tailor, a carpet-weaver.

We must ask them, hey "what kind of young workers would you need next year and how should our education system make sure we provide you with top quality workers".

But we won't.

"Brahmins from British style education" will continue cut-pasting useless statistics
"Brahmins from British style education" will continue making false promises to our kids

But pathetically worse, these ullu "Brahmins from British style education" will continue ignore the needs of a black-smith, a carpenter, a mechanic, a tailor, a carpet-weaver. as they happen to be just the good old shudras.

Just the good old untouchables.

Sadly.

Your stereotyping is rather disappointing.

KPK is where i am focused on! because now that PTI has won can it bring down the percentage of children out of school into schools!

what education reforms are introduced in KPK remains to be seen!

Why keep using the word "Brahmins" ?
you folks cant create a single post without stereotyping someone..can you.... Absolutely Pathetic.... one way or another you find a way to publicize your intolerance...
This could have been a great post....but u ruined it

Is the % for real??? I honestly do not now whats the % for India, but I sure do hope its not as abysmal.

My dear brother you should have read the whole thread. I am cautiously optimistic about India. i.e. well done but more ongoing work to be done.

Regardless I would like to commend you on your input that I have seen on this forum.
