I don´t know what to think about this. But the first head transplant is planned in italy. Dr. Canavero plans to remove the head from a crippled person and plant it on the body of another person. The surgery will take more than 33 hours and 150 doctors and nurses will be needed.

The patient is the russian citizen Valery Spiridonov. He is a russian computer scientist:

There are hard debates in italy why this is allowed here. It looks like a Frankenstein experiment. Other italian doctors say they would not do this and expect that Spiridonov will suffer a worse fate than death. A complete mental meltdown. Nobody knows how the brain will react to all those new connections, new chemicals and so on.

If something goes wrong and the nerve ending from the body and head do not work together then this man will have his head attached to a body that is paralyzed and not even his own.


I also wonder how and where did they get the body from and how do both families of head transplant and body transplant patientsfeel about this? I imagine that the body that they will attach to the man's head is still alive because you can not regenerate a corpse. So is the donor body in a comma? If so he could not have agreed to this, if the body is dead then you can not do the transplant. The only rational thing that comes to mind is that the body donor wants to commit medical suicide and donate his body.

In terms of health care Italy is considered good, in terms of ethics i would say they are pretty "loose".
