That locally produced radar is to be based on the KJL-7(albeit with more power and improvements)..it wont be a completely indigenous effort.
The hardware is sufficient enough.. additional capabilities will be provided by software and a few hardware changes.

There are already a few "tenders" floating around for outsourcing of some modules.
 
When I looked at the radar equation, solving for the range, you have to use the 4th root of the power .... ...

Now is you substitute (550)^0.25 by 650^0.25 the range will only increase by 4.2%. I therefore believe the increase in power points not necessarily to only the range, but other some hadware changes which would then give the improvement with more than the 4% on the range.

The AWC and other organizations regularly outsource work to commercial establishments albiet those with ties to the military..
So time and again.. The CEO/CTO or MD's of these companies get a mail from their contacts in these organizations regarding an RFP...
for eg.. they would get an RFP for a Link-16 simulator..
You would not float that in the papers.. but since these are known contacts.. you forward them the need..
Although there are only a few companies in such a position.. two or three will make a presentation.. get selected.. and develop the required system.
The system then is either integrated or handed over to these state run organizations for acceptance.
Throughout.. visitors from the state org make regular visits to check on progress and provide input..

So.. my floating.. I mean that such RFP's have been sent out..

Yes..and in some cases...foreign companies..
The Italians had some work given to them regarding the Jf-17.
 
tit bit...

klj-7 currently has 550 watt output power and is powerful enough, but plans are in place for locally produced radar to have 600 watt (yes folks, 600) watt which will give it as much power as in APG-68 v9 ! but its radar antenna size will remain same. ISAR will be introduced, other modes will remain same but range will be increased. Overall, i expect it to be as capable as V9 in general capability but less in range. MTBF is around 300 hours. AESA is being worked out in China and is going through final trials. Blk 3 will have AESA but it will be tested on a prototype in China and then in Pakistan......

If i understood your post right it means that the block 2 JF-17 will have a radar with some improvements as compared to the previous block. My question is why should this radar be used in the next block, shouldn't we be waiting for the AESA radar for the block-2.

It will be used with some improvements, this is the theme of whole program, continuous improvement to provide a better quality weapon system throughout its life cycle. Also, AESA will take at least a year to get mature. Performance of current radar is so good that PAF can opt it for future blocks too but it will be replaced in the third batch.

Sorry sir but i think the current inventory is more than 14 as we saw in Zhoai Airshow JFT no.111-16 ,so i think the numbers of aircraft inducted are more now.

i think it is more of requirment rather then performance..
i mean, this radar look anything but mightly impressive, :frown:

the range, the number of targets it can keep track, nothing is soo great that PAF will want to stick to it.
for me , its more about options, PAF is, at the time being, willing to stick to chinese option and are looking toward the upcomming AESA from there side rather then going for a westren option.
this, for me, is good decesion...

Aesa radar is very very important..China should develop one for Jf-17.


Jf-17 with AESA will surely get a good name for export.

How much do you want from a light fighter? Its radar can guide four, not two sd-10s simultaneously, search range is 150 kms, MTBF 230 hours, 30 modes of functions, this all gives it a good cost to performance ratio, is being improved and built in house, better than the rest of our radar inventory except the APG 68 V9 but than V9 is better than most pulse dopplers in the world anyway

I WILL STICK TO BY PREDICTION 50 Thunders by begining or mid 2013.

I while back i suggested that ACM tanvir in air forces monthly had suggested PAF would have 50 THUNDERS by 2013.

I was shot down by PDF members saying i was making things up.

I WILL STICK TO BY PREDICTION 50 Thunders by begining or mid 2013.

nothing like the ridiculous 150 by 2015 THAT SOME ARE SUGGESTING

25 per year at CAC , and new facilities are being developed to produce 25 at PAC which means 50 per year how can you say we cannot have 150 by 2015?
