Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Thursday, announced that the government has decided to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. "The state cabinet unanimously approved that a committee (of experts) will be constituted at the earliest and UCC will be implemented in the state. This will be the first state to do so," Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said.

This is arguably the first major announcement by Dhami after being reelected as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Implementation of UCC was one of the poll promises made by the BJP in the run-up to the Uttarakhand elections 2022.

Welcoming the move, RP Singh, national spokesperson, BJP said that 'law must be equal for all the citizens'. "Uniform Civil Code to be implemented in Uttarakhand. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami keeps his promise," Singh said in a tweet.

Quite contrary to Dhami's claims, however, Uttarakhand may not be the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code as Goa, another BJP ruled state is currently the only state in India to have implemented UCC.

Goa has what Constitutional framers envisaged for India — a Uniform Civil Code... And I have had the great privilege of administering justice under that Code. It applies in marriage and succession, governing all Goans irrespective of religious affiliation. I have heard a lot of academic talk about the Uniform Civil Code. I would request all those intellectuals to simply come here and learn the administration of justice to know what it turns out to be,” then Chief Justice of India SA Bobde had said last year.

5000 years old way of life would be implemented on all residents of Uttarakhand

Every dalit groom would have to ask for at least 100 policemen to ride a horse on his wedding

Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced it before the elections and he won fair and square. Looks like people of Uttarakhand want UCC.

Muslims on odd days- We are equal citizens treat us equally.

Muslims on even days- how dare you treat us equally by legislating common laws for everyone.......:pop:

Treating equal citizen doesn't mean imposing "5000 years old way of life" on the name of equality

But then "5000 years old way of life" was always bad at common sense too

Muslims won't follow the UCC.

You cannot impose unilaterally on 400 Muslim Indians

How do you know its imposing anything ? have you read the unwritten draft of yet to be established committee ?

Common sense coming from the "Arabic way of life in a desert" seems too odd.

They will, like they do in GOA .

State legislature can and will impose anything it wishes on 400 or 4000 million muslim Indians.

Oppression and imposition is far more integral part of 5000 years old way of life than Kashmir can ever be of India

So it is hard to expect anything food out of it particularly considering pajeet obsession with muslims

Also million of virat hindus are busy working in the same deserts since mother India back home wasn't enough to provide meal for its children

Indian Muslims have no spine to Stand for their religious rights. And its ok for them as they see themselves as Indian first so wait until the walls of rules come crashing down.

It is not visible from the behavior of most of today's Indian Muslims but that 1400-year-old "Arabic way of life in a desert" contributed to French and English marriage law 200 years ago which contributed to reform in your "eternal" Sanatan Dharm :) :
When we examine marriage laws in their historic context, it is interesting to note that the universally accepted notion that marriages are contractual rather than sacramental originates in Muslim law, which was accepted by the French law only in the 1800s and incorporated into the English law in the 1850s and became part of codified Hindu law as late as 1955. Today it appears to be the most practical way of dealing with the institution of marriage. Treating marriage as a sacrament which binds the parties for life has resulted in some of the most discriminatory practices against women such as sati and denial of right to divorce and remarriage, even in the most adverse conditions.

The cornerstone of a Muslim marriage is consent, ejab-o-qubul (proposal and acceptance) and requires the bride to accept the marriage proposal on her own free will. This freedom to consent (or refuse), which was given to Muslim women 1,400 years ago, is still not available under Hindu law since sacramental rituals such as saptapadi and kanya dan (seven steps round the nuptial fire and gifting of the bride to the groom) still form essential ceremonies of a Hindu marriage. Even after the codification of Hindu law, the notion of consent is not built into the marriage ceremonies.
Read the rest of that thread OP and the discussion there.

And you are being happy with Uttarkhand CM's announcement but you have to think how happy or unhappy the Hindutavadis will be when a true Uniform Civil Code is implemented because it will abolish many of the Hindutvadis propagated beliefs. For example here are some of Yogi Adityanath's misogynist and suffocating views about women :
He believes women need male protection from birth to death and their ‘energy/power’ should be regulated or controlled, lest it become worthless and destructive.
He adds the shastras say that a woman is protected in her childhood by her father, by her husband in her youth and by her son in her old age — so that way a woman is not capable of being left free or independent.
And this anti-human fellow is being promoted as the next Prime Minister ? So the females who voted for him in Uttar Pradesh and trolled for him on the internet, what do they think of these views of him about them ?

And if that 1400-year-old "Arabic way of life in a desert" had been used in India in other aspects of socio-economics, most importantly the prohibition of interest on loans and abolishment on stock trading, then those 350,000+ Indian farmers who suicided just between 1995 and 2015, they would still be alive.

As if you care about Indian Muslims. Anything to say about the rights of Uighur Muslims? For Indian Muslims, religion is not political. You don't see political war between Deobandi and Barelvi sect in India though both are places in India, but there is war between these sects among Pakistanis which I find odd.

The RSS wants to make it difficult for the Muslims to practise their religion which would lead them to leave the country.

But the truth is the 400 million Muslims will practise their religion freely and won't go anywhere.
