What's new

Bangladesh goes one step forward

isnt burma's main economy sector is Illegal drug trade?
Oh most definitely. If those activities were included in official stats, we would be clear ahead. We're a poor country but nowhere as poor as people seem to think.

How embarrassing for BD that we are lumbered with
Myanmar.

The stats may day different but I would class you with Malawi.

This is shocking to see Burmans are listed high income than BD. I cant believe this. There must be more Burmese hiding in the forest whom are not counted. Including them their figure will go down further below.

But all we are left with these Burmese. For BCIM and East Asia we will have to work for better relation with them. And India is all up to suck their Gas. So why shouldnt we take the opportunity also.

they don't count rohingyas if they do their gdp per capita will drop to half of the published numbers

Congrats BD. Thank us. We have handled your affairs from back door to prevent your country from being a radical's paradise.
Assam and seven sisters would have been independent republics by now if we had not kept the separatist in check :D consider us even :-) and BTW how do you explain mamata-jamaat relation :girl_cray3:

That's what all poor people generally like to believe.

does this mean bd will compete with India and pak in garment sector without any quotas? because its unfair advantage.

No we are still a LDC and will enjoy GSP in europe. PK gets similar benefit as BD in europe as part of GSP+ and enjoys better benefit in USA with GSP. We probably hang on to LDC till 2019.

Funnily enough, the figures use the previous population estimate of 60 million. The latest census shows the population to be around 52million. But yes, the bengali rohingya are not included in this.

How did you count? Your government dont even have access to 50% of the territory. I can bet Myanmnar population is more than 90 million... More so, huge number of people living as refugee and expat which were not counted as they are free loader.

Haha... look, I know it must suck to find yourselves behind us. You've had 20 years of progress and you were sure you'd be ahead of us. But this just shows what a low base you started from. I read only 5% of your country were literate at independence. Now only half your country is illiterate. Take pride in that.

This assumption of not having control is exaggerated. The census was carried out by census takers like in any coutry and was comprehensive. Statistical modelling can be applied to smooth out anomalies anyway. I actually spoke to an NGO guy who's organisation went to verify the census in the remote areas and he said it was pretty much correct. I'm disappointed, actually. It shows the consumer base and workforce is smaller than estimated.

Who knows? Maybe in 10 years we'll have to import cheap manual labour from Bangladesh.

True... a lot of people may have remained uncounted. Burmese statistics agencies are not well developed with an overall statistical capacity of only 46.7 on a 0-100 scale, so any results produced by them is definitely not reliable. And as Iajdani has said their government doesn't even have any control in a large part of the country. Another thing is that, a lion's share of the Burmese economy is owned by their Military Inc. Hence, such per capita income proves nothing as far as Myanmar is concerned. Meanwhile, Myanmar is still considered a low HDI country, that's despite the fact that they didn't have to face any devastating war like we did in 1971.

Anyway, let's not get into this dick measuring contest only because of one attention seeker, let's just cherish our moment.
