'No example' of Ziaur Rahman firing a shot at Pakistani forces: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has once again waded into the discussions on BNP founder Ziaur Rahman raging across the political aisle, casting doubts on his credentials in active combat during the Liberation War.

There is "no reference" to the former military ruler ever firing a gunshot at the enemy forces despite being a sector commander, according to Hasina.
“Ziaur Rahman -- yes, he was a sector commander in the Liberation War. But it was after Khaled Musharraf got injured that Zia was made the sector commander," the Awami League chief said on Tuesday during an event organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League to mark the National Mourning Day.

“But he never particularly fired a shot at the Pakistani army. There’s no precedent for this. No one will be able to show an example of it.”

Hasina has maintained that Zia's participation in Bangladesh's war of independence was "accidental", saying his loyalties always lay with the Pakistanis.
She also blamed the then army chief Zia for the assassination of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.

"After 1975, for those who violated the Constitution and illegally seized power through assassinations, coups, conspiracies — there were some traitors and hypocrites in our party like Khondaker Mushtaque [Ahmad] and others — Ziaur Rahman was their strength," she said during the seminar at Dhaka's Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.
"They admitted as much in the interview they gave to the BBC after Aug 15. Not only that but many newspapers have also reported that Ziaur Rahman was with the killers all the time. ”
“But Zia was just a major. It was only thanks to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib that Ziaur Rahman was promoted to major general. If the country was still called Pakistan, he would have to retire as a major."
The prime minister's remarks came a day after Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque reiterated the government's plans to remove the grave of Ziaur Rahman from the parliament premises.
The gallantry title conferred on the late military ruler will also be revoked in light of "documentary evidence" about his involvement in the assassination of Bangabandhu, the minister said on Monday

A commander doesn't have to actually fire a bullet during the war. His soldiers do it for him.

Current politics of Bangladesh is a joke. Ziaur Rahman was a Brigade commander of one of the only three brigades. He was sector commander of two sectors. He didn't recieve Bir Uttom for nothing. Ziaur Rahman was and always will be one of the greatest leaders of Bangladesh and nothing Hasina says will change that

I propose Hasina Bibi for a "Nobel Prize for Invention of Distorted Truths". This woman and her family were receiving Rs. 1500 per month from the govt of Pakistan during the Liberation War when Mujib was interned in a Pakistani Guest House in Layalpur.

She should mention it instead of smearing through the image of Ziaur Rahman, a Bir Uttam. Hasina Bibi should also mention that her father had failed to declare the Independence of Bangladesh because he did not want to break Pakistan, I personally do not have a say in this, though!!

It was Major Ziaur Rahman who declared independence first in the Chittagong military cantonment, got support from his Bengali Officer colleagues and troops on 26 March 1971, and with their support behind him he declared the same via Kalurghat Radio on the same day as well as the next day.

Zia’s most trusted subordinate sent the killers a couple of hours later after they had had the dinner together! The killer officers pumped magazines after magazines into his dead body to turn it into a heap of minced meat! And, it took place a couple of miles away where he ambushed the Pak unit…..

Nobody knows what happened to his dead body, which was buried without Ghusl, Kefen or Jenaza at an undisclosed location inside a jungle infested with wild animals like wolves, foxes etc….

Being a traitor to Pak doesn’t pay off….

India did not "fool' us: We dragged them into war despite Indira's reluctance as that was the need of the hour.
Pakistani forces needed to get kicked out and got kicked out.

The then government of Bangladesh invited the Indian Army to join its Mukti Bahini to expel the aggressive foreign Pakistani troops from the soil of Bangladesh.

India happily complied. But, why? Because the thick-headed Punjabi-Pathan generals of Pakistan expelled about 9 million Hindus from their homeland who took shelter in a poor India.

Bangladeshi PM and Bangladeshi ministers keep talking about 1971. It looks like they don't want to move forward. Bangladesh was part of Pakistan and Bangladesh should always remember this. There is a limit on our side. Don't fuel the fire. Haseena and her ministers should refrain from glorifying 71. Remember any story that involves India is a direct threat to Pakistan. Bangladesh is no exception.
