"Percentage of urban population living in slums:

India: 24%
China: 25.3%

Slightly better than China but I would be calling a tie.
source? sorry not interested in unverifiable figures."

It's all about how you advertise or how you suppress media..

'I think', 'its a possibilty', 'i dont think'

Those are not self-thoughts? You evaded almost all the request for sources for your claims, then degressed into n employed the typical 'damn u troll' rhetoric.

U can be read like an open storybook.

Spoonfeed? Your are the 1 making claims here- hence, the burden of proof is on u.

With delusional ppl like u, its no wonder Bharat means a poor n backwards nation.[/QUOTE]

Indian Government are the worst offenders in window dressing UN Stats...India use Rs 32 rupees($0.60usd) in 2014, that's why majority of people are not considered living in Slums...China used$4 USD in 2010 per day. hence the Indian chest thumping on equality, which is sad since Stats should be used as tool to guide policy changes rather than mesmerizing the populace to maintain status quo. Mumbai doesn't even track GDP and yet India Media spews out Mumbai GDP in PPP out of thin air...

Indians love arguing over the hypothetical, but there's simply no arguing against reality on the ground.

Different countries have different standards. A drainage pipe is a great achievement for India given its lackluster sanitation situation: you have to take a first step in the right direction to tackle any problem.

The standards for what qualifies as an achievement is rather higher for China; this is not a surprise.

The photo below represents what China considers an achievement.

Wow, the photo says it all: the lack of planning, lack of execution, and lack administrative competence... Absolutely appalling.
The sewage has leaked into the software...something awfully rotten in that culture despite claims of democratic virtuoso.

Will Mumbai finally surpass Shanghai this year?

But how can they do that without enough money?
India has been cutting the corners in its own economy, coupled with the downgraded social life of Indians.

Modi government halves spending on maternity benefits programme jantakareporter.com/india/modi-gov…

On R&D, India spends only 0.85% of its GDP.

. . . . .
What does surpass mean? In which area?

Economy, Infrastructure, HDI, Employment, Innovation, Wealth, better life, cleanliness and low pollution?

When people talk here about city, they just post the photographs of sky scrappers and nothing else which is totally idiotic. Skyscrappers represents the lack of space and high population of city per unit area. It is not at all development. Title itself is very vague.

Do you know when Mumbai will surpass Shanghai?

Mumbai.

Now I urge all forum members to compare both cities. Look at stereotypical chinese high rises of RCC frames covered with glass and look at vibrant construction of Bombay with lota and lots of designs, Low rises, Bungalows, glimpses of French and British style of construction, singapore style high rises and loads of vibrancy clearly visible in each and every new construction. I believe that if we put all variety of chinese construction, put togather they can not match Mumbai. I had no plan to take trouble to post those pictures here but I see that that some people are unstoppable here. Now I have decided to response by posting pictures of Bombay against shanghai so that forum members may have fair Idea of two cities and they can judge which one is better.
