The Chinese government officially says that the Cultural revolution was a disaster, Wen Jiabao was warning about a repeat of the Cultural revolution only a few years ago. The Great leap forward is universally agreed to have been a disaster and a tragedy.

Whereas in India, even those who once opposed Modi such as yourself, all he had to do was snap his fingers and you fell in line.

You see, Mao died half a century ago (the Great leap forward and the Cultural revolution happened before then), Tiananmen square was several decades ago.

The Chinese government is no longer gunning down protestors en masse. India still is, just a few months ago dozens (50-60) of Kashmiri protestors were shot to death by the Indian Army, and countless others permanently injured.

Just like Shanghai and Mumbai, India is still stuck several decades behind. What was a historical tragedy for us is still common in modern India.

You didn't answer my question - were any of the leaders of the Chinese communist party tried for their crimes against humanity or did the Chinese people meekly accept their misdeeds?
And 1989 was not "several decades ago". I bet the middle leadership then now occupies the upper echelons of the Communist Party. Correct me if I am wrong.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with setting lofty goals. The difficult part is the actual implementation and delivery. This is where India falls short time and time again. It's easy to make predictions and announcements because they are just words. To translate them into reality is an entirely different matter...

And North Koreans believe their country is a paradise on earth... The problem with countries whose people are too poor to travel is that they are easily manipulated by their elite into believing fantasies. Indians who are lucky enough to have traveled to Shanghai or other global metropolises quickly realize they have been lied to by their politicians and that India is in fact very poor and very backward.

A more realistic goal for Mumbai would be to first catch up with Lagos in the short term, then catch up with Nairobi within 20 years, and then move on to Baku, and then perhaps match Manila by the end of this century.

I don't understand why Indians feel like they are 30 years behind China, this kind of logic eludes me to be frank. Are Indians suggesting in 30 years time around 2050 India would have caught up with China and standing on equal footing? Are Indians expecting China's development to stand still for 30 years and do nothing?

If you guys are saying in 2050 time India has developed to where China is today that is something we will have to wait and see what India looks like after 3 decades. Seriously have Indians even thought about what China will look like in 2050?

Indian infrastructure when it comes to cities is at least 40 years behind PR China. In the rural areas, I would assume we are about 15 to 40 years behind. To be honest, other than the showpiece cities of PR China, we don't see the countryside. Even media is not allowed.

The BBC even did this big documentary called "Wild China" in which they never even showed a single developed city, it's all rural countryside.
