Why Chennai can't and won't speak Hindi

You didn't answer my question at all.

What if a north Indian does not know Tamil or English and only knows Hindi. He wants to converse with you and you know Hindi then should you not talk in Hindi to help that poor guy ?

The only issues that some Northies have in Chennai is that when Tamils even know Hindi they still don't speak it. Tamils don't need to learn Hindi but when they already know the language then what harm is there in conversing in Hindi with a North Indian ?

This arises out of the baggage of history. Trying to force Hindi was a blunder. Because of this, its seen as a language which is being force fed.

Will have to disagree with some Tamlians here that they won't speak/learn Hindi cause its alien, difficult and other Stuff.

I stayed 3 years in Chennai, during a conference call you would find Tamilians talking in Tamil.. I mean wth ? When they know that there are people who do not understand Tamil and then those tamlians are on that call cause they are expected to know English, why speak in Tamil?

Can anyone a answer?

Well it would be better for all of us to get rid of all baggages of past.

Speaking in Hindi with a North Indian when you know the language does not in any way dent the pride of a Tamil in any way.

On a sidenote, I have seen a sudden interest among some of my fellow Delhiites in trying to learn Tamil especially since Chennai Express.

Well this is an age old story. Today in the era of globalization, youths consider language as an asset and practically to the thread opener, it is impossible to learn all the native Indian languages and mind you, those of us who have even seen the door of a school can manage Hindi enough to keep us united.

they are as high headed as Hindi-only crowd(who wants to see unrelated people speak Hindi because they believe in UP-Bihar Hindi is national language!LOL?) or more passionate when it comes to language. there are no such people in south India as Tamils who are passionate about Tamil language and culture. you can read tamil is 10,000 years old civilization and other BS being propagated. anti-Hindi, anti-Sanskrit, anti-Brahmin are the core values of Dravidianism put forward by Periyar. 90% of Tamils except some Forward Castes are brainwashed for generations on this stupid theory.
Periyar E. V. Ramasamy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

you may find people from karnataka or kerala speak with you in broken Hindi; but don't expect that from Tamils because- their education, culture all are based on a different race that they are supposedly called "Dravidian" which was put forward by EV Ramaswamy Naiker(Periyar). the later years saw enforcement of anti-brahminicm and pro-dravida parties pops up who will beat down any shop or establishment if they hear Tamil culture was disrespected. also, Tamil unity is based on this brainwashing. Do you believe only Hindi-wallahs are united in spirit? see this Video:
This is Tamils from wild southern Tamilnadu(Madurai-Cumbum) who after getting brainwashing lessons from DMK/ADMK dravidianist parties marching to Kerala border to capture a dam(Mullaperiyar). you can see they are coming to attack people of other state(Kerala).Tamilnadu police was silent. so, you may, rather not sell that Hindi rashtr bhasha thing with Tamils. they are unmistakably brainwashed of Dravidian Periyarist crap.

Why Southern Tibetans can't speak Hindi because they aren't Indian, just simple logic Indian let it slip from the consciousness.

Southern Tibetans look nothing like Indian from culture, verbally and written language completely seperate from the Indian.

Tamils are chauvinistic about their language, their culture and their rites. Respect given on that account but yes, they can be very , VERY ultra chauvinistic and of "my culture is better than yours" types. I had a conversation with a Chinese in Singapore and the fact is , they (the Chinese ) typically won't hire a Tamil because they know, you hire one Tamil, he brings in another 20 on board. So , they do look out for each other and will do so on the sole basis of superiority complex about themselves.

And let's give credit to them - why shouldn't anyone speak Tamil in Tamil Nadu?

Why would South Tibetans know Hindi or any Indian language when they are not part of India?
Only those Tibetans who live in India know Hindi or any other Indian language.

Still, we won't give you the cookie. Live with it.

So by your logic, anyone who does not speak Hindi is not an Indian?

For your kind information, India does not mean Hindi. India is a unification of different languages and cultures and a proud factor among many of us. So let me put across a question top you. How should an Indian Look?

No reason. Tamil should be spoken in Tamil Nadu. Punjabi in Punjab.Bengali in Bengal.

Problem arises when idiotic things are asked in the name of 'equality of languages' - like using Tamil for 2 rs coin, kannad for 5 rs coin , et all.

Suddenly, they forget that India has hundreds of languages and that we dont have so many coins - at that time they will be comfortable in letting the tribal languages go and stick with major Indian languages for coins/notes/etc - tamil being one of them(coincidentally ofcourse)..!

I have heard after 1965 all the CM post holders in TN aren't Tamil. Is that true?

Southern Tibet don't belong to India, China still claim those region disputed region. Southern Tibet annexed by the British not by the Indian government. Therefore China never bind by with the agreement of the British drawing the map of India.

Its a non issue for 99.99% Indians. Many states has their own language and we are very proud of that. Hindi is Just another language(though majorty Indians can speak it) like Tamil.
