Whitherwards Indian politics ?

Star Tribune is from Lebanon.

Is the worker justified? It is upto the sensitivity of each.

 pathatic try by you.

Where this action proves that there is any law which prevents handling of pork??

If the Muslim workers refused to handle the pork it was their individual decision and was not enforced by law of the land unlike India where if you slaughter a Cow you will be jailed that too on the basis of religion.

Dalits are hindus by birth .And have every right to chage religion if they want.U will find some christans even muslims who are considered Dalits who get reservation in jobs & admissions in educational institutes.

AS far for the conversion yes they can that is not the point of debate. The matter at hand is that why in the first place thousands of Hindu Dalits choos to convert to other faiths ???

Secondly in a secular country why some states stop conversions by making a law just to stop these Hindu dalits from converting ???

The question is if the government want Hindu status of these Dalist intact then it is against the spirit of Secularism in the first place as in a seculer society people from every faith should have the right to practic whatever they believe without any hindernce.

Beef is not banned in India nobody stops Muslims from eating Beef. Cow slaughter is banned in some areas due to law and order to maintain communal harmony. This noway breaches secularism.

India does provide Haj concessions to Muslims and no such concessions for Hindus or other religions. Haj Concessions are not even given in Pakistan. You should be questioning Govt of India over this.

We are not talking about Beef we are talking about the COWS. And this does breaches secularism. Secularism does claim to protect all equally and no law is allowed under secularism to stop others from practice somthing under his/her faith.

If you are a Hindu and you dont eat cow meat or do not slaughter a cow under your religion than it is your right no to do so but if you impose the same on non-Hindus than it is against the secularism.

If im a Muslim and i eat cow meat it is my right but i dont have right to force you to eat the same.

as far questioning your government for the second part of your post. All the faiths should be given equal facilities under a secular state if your government is not doing so then it is equally questionable in this case too.

I wonder who is pathetic!

I wonder who has such draconian laws as the Blasphemy laws imposed non believers of Islam and yet citizens of a country, which demand death as a penalty!

Handling of merchandise is a part of the job and it damn well be done! In Singapore, Islamic people and Hindus handle all products! Why? If religion is invoked, they will be kicked out! It is utter stupidity that one will not handle pork products. Will religion recompense the store? Is the store their for religious PC or for profit?

How about a cull on religion? Hope you have learnt the meaning of cull!

Let me tell you that many Hindus eat beef.

How many people Islamic faith eat pork? Here it is from a Sikh website.

Leaders like Jinnah and Liaqat Ali Khan who behaved more like englishmen than subcontinent muslims, started exploiting the sentiments of Muslims through out India. Jinnah, although an accomplished lawyer, was a petty, shrewd person who was only the second generation of neuveau-riche liberal muslims. He was called a pseudo British or a brown sahib. Though a muslim he drank liquor, wore the best of Saville Row bespoke suits and even ate pork. He always had a cigarette in hand lighting another before he finished his last..

Zia came to the dinner that evening. No not the President Zia-ul-Haq but Zia Hussain my childhood friend. In our conversation that evening he shared that he was the General Manager of Oxford University Press (Pakistan)- a Publishing house in Karachi. Their parent company in New York had published the biography of the Father of the Nation titled as Jinnah of Pakistan. Though the book was full of unvarnished facts, it was also scholarly honest and unbiased. Most of all; the image of Jinnah that came through the book was of a once in a century hero- much like George Washington of the US.

Amazingly enough the book got banned in Pakistan. President Zia-ul-Haq, on the other hand, not only wanted the book be published, but he also wanted it to be the core of all undergraduate studies in the Universities across Pakistan. In his mind President Zia could not smudge Jinnah Sahib’s image. So the mention of Jinnah Sahib ’s indulgence with whiskey and eating forbidden flesh was unacceptable to him. It had to be excluded from the book. This was Zia Hussain’s mission. He had to convince Mr. Stanley Wolpert to expunge a part of Mr. Jinnah’s Life, in order to make him a “True Hero”.

How does eating pork and drinking alcohol diminish his achievements?

Indeed he is a true Hero for Pakistan!

It was his effort that ensured a country for the Islamic people of India!

Maintaining ban in certain places to maintain religious harmony does not breach secularism. Law and order is job of the government period.

Now please start your campaign with the same zeal as you showed for Cow slaughter which incidentally is a non-issue which even Indian muslims do not question.

We dont claim to be Secular and hence there is no debate over not being secular. There is another thread on blasphemy so you are open to debate that issue there.

Indeed handling of mechandise is part of the job and Islam does not stop any Muslim from handling pork. Being Muslims we dont eat pork but we dont have any state law that stop non-Muslims from eating pork unlike India where non-Hindus are punished for and handed jail terms up to five years for slaughtering cows.

Yes Jana, please do strive for equality by denouncing the Haj subsidy as loudly as the cow slaughter issue.

Personally, I find this beef pork debate stupid.

It is a personal choice!

It is material.

If you have such draconian laws, then your Holier Than Thou attitude appears most ridiculous and totally ludicrous!

Non Islamic people don't believe in Allah or the Prophet Mohammed. So why the Hudood and Blasphemy Law made applicable to them? So why prevent others from their opinion and way of life. Why must they also conform to Islam? And have death (and not 5 years) as the penalty?

You wanted to know of Indian secularism?

People of Islamic faith are subsidised to pray to the Allah (Haj).

They have reservations for everything from education to jobs.

Why?

Are they not normal people or are they intellectually inferior to compete as anyone else?

Jana,

I have a question for you.

India and Paksitan got independence on the same day, but you wanted to be one up and so you decided that it was one day earlier than India. Fair enough. Such cosmetic childishness is fine.

Ever since you have had to depend on the munificence of others to survive as a nation. You still continue to do so. Financially and militarily, you cannot to without the West. Morally, you require China to hold your hand!

When will you stand on your own feet?

The US dictates you and treats your country as a vassal state. Is that honourable? Ask yourself.

Since you will come back to comparison to India, let me pre-empt you.

We are not great country, but none can dictate terms to us, We are what we are and none can tell us what to do!

At the WTO, we did not budge! American must be hating us. Who cares? Our interests are more important than selling our souls for a few F 16s.

Think that over!

Obviously that pains you since we got Independence together and yet you are no where and the Two Nation theory screwed by the ''treacherous'' Bangladeshis and India is reaching some place!

I share your anguish!

Legalisation on the basis of religion :)
Wrong again. This is becoming a habit with you.
Legalization based on the sentiment of the populus majority. The origins of the sentiment is a non sequitur. This is fine as long as it doesn't impede upon the lives of other citizens; which it doesn't because beef obtained from bulls is widely available on the market. Which means that any Indian citizen (regardless of her religious background) has ample access (as determined by market forces) to beef for the sake of consumption.
If legislation were based on religious texts, then the state would have outlawed carnivorism; which obviously it can't.

Jana said:
urghh what a silly comparison. Dogs are not allowed to cull because majority of dont consider it good for the human consumption where as ban on Cow slaughtering is purly on Religious basis in India not for mercy for the animal. If it was the case why Hindus dont have same mercy for chickens.
In the American society, dogs are highly revered as companions/pets for many reasons ranging from the origins of the frontier culture to present day practice of substituting dogs for children, using them for therapy or helping cope with an empty nest syndrome. Regardless, dogs are seen in a different light in our culture; and I as an owner of a 100lbs Golden Retriever (who works as a therapy dog in a major cancer institute 3 days a month) like most of my fellow Americans find the act of eating a dog disgusting and against the spirit of our culture. In India, a traditionally agrarian society, the cow is socially viewed as an icon of agricultural life which is to be endeared and respected; and this is the value embodied by the majority of the population who has got their government to enact a law that protects this animal. In doing so, nobody else is being harmed; nor has anyone protested about not being able to slaughter a cow. If there were a genuine reason, the government would have to consider it. But there isn't; and the majority has won. That is how democracy works while upholding secularism.

Jana V entire India

Well not bad ;)
I know I've said this many times before. But thank you for missing the point yet again. I also find it hilarious that at some level you actually believe that you're some sort of a mouthpiece for the poor disenfranchised people (Muslims mostly) who "suffer" under the brutality of the evil Indian government. The only problem is that you're so ill-informed about most of these matters and that your rants are so full of propaganda that it always brings the satire-o-meter to its breaking point.

:) first of all though you had tried mud slinging on Jinnah but even than where does above "information" mentions that Islam forbids non-Muslims from eating PORK???

And why you are bent upon forcing all Muslims to eat Pork saying it does not diminish their achievements.
Secondly Islam does not ask non-Muslims not to eat Pork nor there is any punishment for those Muslims who eat Pork.

Now in sharp contrast to that in SO-called Secular India there is law that punishes those Non-Hindus to up to 5 years of jail imprisonment who slaughter a Cow.
