I hope you don't take this as an offense (considering you're from Israel), but Jewish people are VERY smart. They may have 8 million pop or 292b GDP, but almost every Jew loves Israel and supports it, financially and educationally. Hence their aviation, military and technology industry is very advanced.

Aid to Israel is less than 1.5% of Israel's GNP. Aid to Syria currently is some 100% of Syria GNP. They totally depend on foreign aid currently.
