i would vote for J-31 ... and for stop gap , more F-16... and put some funds in Jf-17 program ...

.
with the exception of the JF-17 the PAF doesn't really want chinese aircraft, the F-16C/D is superior and more proven then the J-10. Buying the J-10 is too high risk mainly because of how unproven it is. If money wasn't an issue or if pakistan had the wealth of some rich persian gulf state they would have secured a multi-billion dollar deal for the Typhoons EF2000 years ago. the J-10 and other PLAAF aircraft might look cool but its doesn't mean shit if you take into consideration how unproven they are.

.
Its gonna be fun to watch chinese when India inducts Tejas MK1 and MK 2 in large numbers , Even 100 new fighter jets will be a game changer . Leave PAF alone . They can compare with Bangladesh , Srilanka and Afganistan .
Mirage2k upgrades , Jaguar Upgrades , Su30mki upgrades + 180 more new MKI ,new Rafale MMRCA 120-160 , Tejas MK 1 100 or atleast 14 per year Future induction of PAKFA , AMCA or Tejas MK 2 ,3 . NICE !

India might buy F35 Lightng II for INS VISHAL . Which is very possible . Even mix of 10 F35 , 10 Rafale M , 10 Tejas MK2 Will be a huge boost for any navy .

Munne if you ever have a chance to meet a IAF 1965 or 71 pilot ask him about the capabilities of PAF and our training and combat tactics that how much we were outnumbered in both qaulity and quantity.
Never underestimate your enemies the same mistakes you have done in the past.
(Now you will bring liberation of Bangladesh here but we are talking about the airwarfare so kindly stick to the topic)

. .
We are gonna buy J-10 no doubt but eventually we will get J-21 or J-31 for new 5th gen airforce

.
Pakistan should have really Taken J10B

J11 60 units- Arrival Air Superiority Role 2015-2016
J10B , 36 units , addition of 14 would have yeilded 50 J10B - December 2014
F16 C/D 80
JF17 150 Units

LMAOOOO... Indians and their optimism. Literally China sees India like USA sees Ethiopia. India is not a super power, rather super poor

. .
In my opinion PAF now needs to stop relying on US, they will not give anything to Pakistan. PD needs to work with China & explore for more options like Russia & Turkey. No more US.

.
Not sure why we have not gone for J10B , and J11 already these are so natural choice

Between 2015-2017 we should focus on J10B - J11

And 2019-2020 start to focus on J31

.
Too late to induct J-10 & J-11, wont add much of a capability. PAF was once seriously interested in FBC-1/JH-7 but it was too late to induct those as well plus with low production rates early delivery for Pakistan wasnt possible. F-16 Blk-52s and MLUs have lessened the pressure enough to pass over the J-10B.

J-31 is the only way forward. Only expecting more used F-16s and JF-17s inducted into PAF next 4 years.

A new low RCS version of the JH-7 known as JH-7B is expected to be revealed and enter production 2015-16. Seems promising for PAF as a strike/interceptor for PAF to augment the JF-17s.

Good luck to your low RCS with all those external missile.

Its low frontal RCS by hiding fan blades and composites... it wont be carrying full external load all the time. Still a wait and see.

Why PAF is so reluctant from using twin engine fighter jets?

Aircraft operating costs rise when its twin engined. The Rafael costs $16000-17000 per flying hour, Grippen costs $4700 per flying hour. You can google up the figures, they keep changing but roughly more than twice for twin engined jets. Israeli AF states an F-16 flying hour costs half of what a flying hour costs for a F-15.

PAF has had twin engined fighter/bomber aircraft (A-5, F-6, B-57) in the past, it prefers to use single engined jets because of lower maintenance cost/time and operation costs, single engined jets offer higher availability because of less maintenance demands. Its not against inducting twin engined jets, just out of coincidence the recent options available have all been single engined.

PAF doctrine demands aircraft have high availability. To allow greater sortie rates, PAF has multiple number of pilots per aircraft. Having a greater sortie rate and aircraft availability adds a force multiplier dimension to its fleet.

That might be a solid reason but, doesn't twin engine have an edge over single engine fighter jets in terms of power, speed and other factors as well? IAF has got SU-30 as its backbone for multi-role purpose. Can our F16s win against those big planes?
