That might be a solid reason but, doesn't twin engine have an edge over single engine fighter jets in terms of power, speed and other factors as well? IAF has got SU-30 as its backbone for multi-role purpose. Can our F16s win against those big planes?

In AA combat doesnt matter if its single engined or twin engined, the aircraft with a better thrust to weight ratio is at an advantage. So lots of factors involved you can't say which is better.

Twin engined aircraft are preferred for where heavy combat load and large combat range is preferred as with a twin engine design you always have a redundancy in case of a single engine failure plus larger aircraft means more fuel carrying capacity for greater range. Russians have special preference for large twin engine aircrafts capable of operating in isolation without ground control support as they have vast patrol areas to cover and heavy weapons load out to compensate for absence of immediate reinforcement support. Also larger aircraft have room for larger radar antennas and its required power sourcing. Besides the Pak-India border IAF has a huge area to cover on its border with China and other neighbors, so similar thinking makes the SU-30 ideal for Air CAP for IAF. A SU-30 type aircraft for PAF on the other hand is overkill as PAF bases are relatively nearer so faster reaction time for reinforcement support and ground radar support as well as shorter patrol corridors gives it the cushion for easier to operate single engined aircraft.

Bases being close together means the enemy can take out huge part of the air force in one big simultaneous air and missle strike..

Imagine ten pak air bases

A salvo if three hundred brahmos cruise missiles coming at them each travelling three times the speed of sound.

Preceded by three strike formations of fify fighters each coming over from north , the south and over the loc border Punjab.

Now imagine Nasr and Babur flying over New Delhi :D

J-20 is a real beauty with canards and true stealth technology, which J-31 lacks. However J-20 shall be very expensive. Apart from that, J-10B and J-31 have similar performance and features and Pakistan should go to the less expensive option i.e J-10B.
