i haven't read the "manifesto" or "capital"... i have capital with me, sitting unread... i thought it would be a philosophical work but it has so many mathematical equations ( you will be interested, i think ).

do read manifesto. it is the real root of communist zeal. i got one printed by penguin classics. it has a long introduction by some british nerd. i got bogged down in it. so havent yet read the text of manifesto itself. i will post that illuminating introduction on PDF latter.
not much interested in maths anymore. got a book on western philosophy. going through it at a snail pace these days.

by the way, i am trying to get into one of the local public communist parties, even though my socialist ideals don't originate in classical marxism.

thats nice. socialism is more practical rather than theoretical anyway. one can be an armchair general but not an armchair socialist. so goodluck with politics. maybe you will be able to mould that party into your own image one day.

thank you... i had met with local "aam aadmi party" leaders months ago, and even though they propagate their "swaraj" vision of direct-democracy, they are still unformed about socialism vs capitalism as the guiding principle.

maybe you will be able to mould that party into your own image one day.

to be honest, that is my aim... the communist groups in india are disunited ( separated in the 60's ) and are not innovative in their approach and also i don't see internationalism work from among them... one thing that separates the communist parties of india ( except for the naxalites ) from the socialists in other societies is that they chose the elections way of being in power in two states and did not take up revolutionary work, except for trade unions... even pakistan twice had chance for a socialist coup but those in india did not work towards a vision of national power.

for me, jamahiriya direct-democracy socialism is much simpler than their fixed/old ways but like you said, my aim is to unite them in some way and turn them towards green socialism or at least a good acceptance of it... my more ambitious aim is to create a umbrella grouping of all socialist/progressive groups in south asia and guided by green socialism... i hope to achieve this in five years.

how do you view european neo-socialism? goods are not common, there is private ownership, but everyone gets social security. no one dies of hunger or is left uneducated or sick.

1. "the world according to bob" by james bowen... is about about cat called bob from london and his human companion ( james )... it is a easy read and quite a natural writing.

2. "titan" by ben bova, currently on my reading list... science fiction about a huge space station around planet saturn and a mission to send a robot down to titan, the atmosphere-having moon of saturn.

3. "street fighting years" by tariq ali, about his activism years from pakistan to outside... has good information about not only socialism but about pakistan in the 60's and what went on in the world then and afterwards.

4. "saturn" by ben bova... this book has a good understanding of how to manipulate political opinion of people... highly recommend.

5. "and then one day" by naseeruddin shah... his autobiography... he is quite irreverent towards the "bombay films" environment.

6. "poems by faiz" by kiernan... a translation... still unread by me.
