A common attribute among armchair generals is that they've never really been in a fight.
They visualize their fights on the basis of everything they would do - no mistakes, and everything planned out. They throw out well-practiced punches, and perfectly aimed roundhouse kicks. Never once imagining that opponent fights back. Nor the opponent doing something you didn't plan for.
They get their first fight and the world starts looking very depressing after getting their buts handed over to them.
Opponents, no matter how weak, incompetent or unmotivated you think they are - they fight back. Just as you like to 'think outside the box', they do too.
Firing off missiles unprovoked doesn't end a fight, it ignites one - a long and atrocious one.
