The selfsuffient projects of our military has begon far in the 1980s.
RTE has nothing to do with it!

After Kibris rescue problem, we had get an embargo!

And the embargo has been given to us, not because that TSK has intervent in Kibris. It has been given to us, because we have used US made weapons, where they have not given us the right to use it out of Türkiye!

Therefor TSK and Mehmetcik Vakfi has start to build military companies like ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, MITEKSAN, Tübikat Sage,.... .

And yes it was the right step!

The wrong step was to sacrifice our military industry in the 1950's, where we were able to produce plains, mbt's and much more!

From political sight and NATO memebrship. we as Türkiye had learned that there are no real friends in world.

Therefor it was the best to recreate our military industry again!

And what would happen when we do not have projects like ATAK, ANKA, ALTAY, SOM, COBRA, MILGEM ....

We would begging others for outdated weapon systems and have to give more than money to get them! We would be wounded politically too. Get no good position in any political situation! Look at our past!

Germans who deny to sell Leo 2 mbt's.

USA who deny UAV's Pretator class, or IAI made Heron's who do not fly and were to expensive

Frigates from Germany for double of the cost than our MILGEM and with lesser fire power or technology.

You are right we have a deep Tradition in Military in so called RE-MO plans. After the US-Embargo Ministerpresident Ecevit had very Close ties to Scandinavian countries. Unfortunately these ties weren't expanded. Our Military leaved mainly dependend on German and US weapon Systems. Most of them were transferred during the Gulf War. Other countries walked an other way and have a mix of weapons , for example Greece has French and Scandinavian weapons Systems. ( Mirage, Erieye, La Combattante, Kortenaer Class ..)
Türkiye had never enough money to buy or develop weapons, the first modern Misille Fast Attack Craft , GURBET of Dogan Class was funded from donations of in foreign countries living Turkish citizens.
