:)))) Wasn't India not even sure that at what stage Pakistan's nuke capability was at that time ??
May be your brasstacks was to find it out by planning taking out our nukes :azn:

all failed on your part atleast accept this fact

The idea that India backed down due to nukes is laughable, especially when you saw kargil much later ... the ammasing of troops on border is an act of coresion... and things can be achieved without going to war.

More like, a desperate Zia flew to India and tried to calm the tense situation.. which actually was a good move .. looking back

Even now, with 100+ nukes, your security aparatus is nervous when LoC flares up.

Pakistani assumption ?? hmm ok here is something from Indian facts .

Brasstacks was no military exercise. It was a plan to built up a situation for a fourth war with Pakistan. And, what is even more shocking is that the Prime Minister, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, was not aware of these plans.

—Lieutenant General P.N. Hoon, Commander Western Command.

The use of force : military power and international politics (7th ed. ed.). Lanham, Md.: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. pp. 380–390. ISBN 978-0-7425-5669-0.

As Lt. General Hoon said, plan was to build up a situation for war.

Indian plan wasn't to attack Pakistan, but rather get Pakistan to do something somethin and then hit back, hit back hard.

These beliefs emerged from the shadows during the decisions concerning the initiation and conduct of 1986-87 "Brasstacks" crisis. This serious crisis began in late 1986 when the Indian military initiated a massive military exercise in Rajasthan, involving an estimated 250,000 troops and 1,500 tanks, including the issuance of live ammunition to troops and concluding with a simulated "counter-offensive" including Indian Air Force strikes, into Pakistan. The Pakistani military, fearing that the exercise might turn into a large-scale attack, alerted military forces and conducted exercises along the border, which led to Indian military counter movements closer to the border and an operational Indian Air Force alert. The resulting crisis produced a flurry of diplomatic activity and was resolved only after direct intervention by the highest political authorities.

The traditional explanation for the Brasstacks crisis has been that it was an accidental crisis, caused by Pakistan's misinterpretation of an inadvertently provocative Indian Army exercise. For example, Devin Hagerty's detailed examination of "New Delhi's intentions in conducting Brasstacks" concludes that "India's conduct of 'normal' exercises rang alarm bells in Pakistan; subsequently, the logic of the security dilemma structured both sides' behavior, with each interpreting the other's defensive moves as preparations for offensive action."9 A stronger explanation, however, unpacks "New Delhi's intentions" to look at what different Indian decision makers in the capital wanted to do before and during the crisis.

In brinkmanship you must appear just the right amount of crazy, too much and you're escalating the situation, too little and you give the other side confidence to test your crazy.

Zia knew the right balance and his cricket diplomacy worked in Pak's favor.

Wow, I'm not amazed by the ability of Zarvan's and some zaid hamid type blogs to post so much imagined rubbish, but by the ability of pakistani hoi polloit on the forum to lap it up just because it involves religious chest thumping and the spirit of shahadat :)

I for one would love to know who is this special advisor to Rajiv Gandhi named ''Behramnam'' who almost came in his pants after inhaling the pheromones exctreted by the mard e momin!!!

But I suppose in the spirit of consensus, lets all agree Zil Ul Haq, the mard e momin was the best thing that ever happened to pakistan.

He is repeating the same thing "It appears that Sundarji and Arun Singh did not inform the PM."

So basically Indian Army was firing the shots and Rajiv Gandhi was sidelined for such a provocative mobilization of Indian Army.

Indian scholar Paul Kapur also talked about Indian Army's provocation during that exercise to attack Pakistan. uncalled for indeed

It is always Indian army calling shots for military exercises. I am not aware if the PM gives permission for military exercise. Also, as he mentioned - he THOUGHT that this is war preparation. None of the higher ups told him that this is war prep.

These people and their high voltage stories.. :disagree:

You didnt get it, do you??

Misspell the name "Brahmin", you will get plenty of names like this..

Precisely the reason Pak's existence is a threat to the world. In its present geographical boundaries Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and KPK should be separate countries. Inshallah, they will be

and it was Zia who kept mum after India capttured Siachin.. and said ... there even doesn't grow grass... ... why that mard e momin mard e haq didn't retaliate???

Lol well spotted. Even crude lies are to palatable when religious zazba is added. Must have been difficult to press the thank you button with tears in the eyes :)

There is a reason zarvans always win in pakistan.

Well Zia was a RAW agent. Here I said it.

Guess what the source is a zaid hamid blog, the standard recipe, take some events from history, add religious fervor and colorful language and write a rousing story of great islamic machoness and bring faithful believers to climax.

Takbeer e Musalsal Zaid Hamid's Personal Blog

Like the shot of Mumbai harbor from a Pakistani submarine or how ajmal kasab was actually amar singh or how Pakistan is on moon now. I'm genuinely concerned that obviously fake stuff without links and made up using fake names gets so many people believing it. Stupidity is a such a serious problem I've realized only lately.
