What happened between Zia and Rajiv Gandhi

A simplistic view of what probably happened

1. India prepared for battle exercises and war games
2. Pakistani army got the jitters and started fear mongering about "India is coming"
3. Zia went to India to watch a cricket match and shook hands with Rajiv Gandhi asking him not to attack Pakistan
4. Rajiv Gadhi asked the defense minister if he knew what Zia was talking about
5. Defense minister said that probably Zia was confusing the East and West fronts of Pakistan
6. Rajiv Gandhi smirked and carried on
7. Indian forces completed the war games and went back
8. Zia chest thumped that made India back down :)
9. Pakistani Fanboys and people like Zaid Hamid got the opportunity to yet again "Create History"

What? No unicorns? No pixies? No leprechauns? I'm disappointed.

Gen Zia was much much better than the ball less- gherat less- creatures we have for PM and COAS right now include the terrorist sympathizer CJ aswell-

Better than all the politicians now.

Looks like you misquoted. Wanted to quote the OP and quoted my post by mistake ;)

Unless you are as delusional as the OP

Well I can't argue that flawless logic. Like I couldn't with your previous post. Obviously, you being Indian are correct, since correct history isn't just told but made by Indians and Indians alone. I mean, its quite apparent that you were present there, latched onto Rajiv's pantaloons ;)

And the way you explained the 86-87 Brasstacks, ummmhhhhmmmm.......! ^.^

In 86-87 I was too small to latch on to anyone's pantaloons :)

And dont you think that the onus of proving what happened at that meeting lies with the one who claimed to know the details.. I atleast qualified my scenario with a "Probably what happened" :D

God ,these pakistani create parallel history quite quickly with spun name {brah{minam|manam|manem}bat}:omghaha:

Oh I don't care about the meeting or whatever Zia did or did not say. My contention was only with your narration of the strategic and political events of 86-87. Even if those words were said then they weren't suppose to scare Rajiv or show that Zia's "balls" had to be measured in tonnage. Not even to let Rajiv know that Pakistan was ready for India. They were meant to put another pepper in Rajiv's plate in case his appetite for war grew too strong; they were meant to serve a political purpose not to give PDF members a reason to make fun of India or for Indians to feel that their honor is being threatened, that is if they were said at all. These kind of statements are said quite frequently in the political arena.

Gen. Zia’s Famous Threat To Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi in 1987
August 27, 2013 · by Tariq Vaid · in Current Affairs, Pakistan, Politics

File Photo: Pakistan President General Zia-ul-Haq & Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi
The Representative of India Today included the comments of BehramNam – Special Advisor to Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi, on his article on Gen. Zia-ul-Haq’s visit to India. He writes,

“Pakistan President General Zia-ul-Haq arrived in New Delhi (enroute to Chennai to watch the Pakistan-India Test Match) without any invitation. At that time, Indian PM was not ready to meet Gen. Zia at the Airport. Indian Army were waiting for PM orders for an Attack on Pakistan through the Rajasthan Sector. In such a situation, it was improper to meet the Pakistani President. But Opposition Leaders & Cabinet Members were of the view that despite that the Pakistani Leader arrived without any invitation, it will be against Diplomatic Norms not to meet him & would cause misunderstandings about the Indian leadership on an International Level.

On our persuasion, Rajiv Gandhi went to the Airport the receive the President of Pakistan. Gen. Zia was accorded a lukewarm response from the Indian Prime Minister with an uninterested handshake without making any eye-contact. Rajiv Gandhi said to me, “Gen. Zia has to go to Chennai to watch the Cricket Match, so accompany him & take care of him”. I thought that Bhagwan how strong is this man, that inspite of an insulting behaviour from Rajiv Gandhi, Gen. Zia kept smiling.

Before his departure, Gen. Zia turned to Rajiv Gandhi and said, ‘Mr. Rajiv, you want to attack Pakistan, go ahead and do it. But keep in mind that after this the World would forget Hulagu Khan & Gengis Khan & will only remember Zia-ul-Haq & Rajiv Gandhi. Because this will not be a Conventional War but a Nuclear War. In this situation, Pakistan might be completely destroyed, but Muslims will still be there in the World, but however with the destruction of India, Hinduism will vanish from the face of this earth’.

Cold-drops of perspiration were visible on Rajiv Gandhi’s forehead. I felt sensation in my backbone. These were only few minutes, but Gen. Zia seemed to us a very dangerous man. With a stern-face, Gen. Zia’s eyes showed that he meant business. I was astonished, that after this stern warning, in a flash, Gen. Zia started smiling as if nothing happened & warmly shook hands with other hosts. Except Rajiv Gandhi & myself, that this Gen. Zia had created problems for the Indian PM by threatening him of Nuclear War.”

No matter how bad people say about Gen. Zia, but this is a fact that Gen. Zia was a Pro-Pakistan, True & Honest Leader, one of the finest Pakistan has ever had. Such events & circumstances define a Leader. Be it Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif, the former initiating the Nuclear Program & the latter conducting the Nuclear Blasts.

Before his departure, Gen. Zia turned to Rajiv Gandhi and said, ‘Mr. Rajiv, ....

Just this line shows how fake is this story. given the education of Zia, he would never use the desi and incorrect syntax of using Mr with just the first name. It would be either Mr Gandhi or Mr Rajiv Gandhi...

Psst yeah right .... famous threat.... that SOB explode with mangoes. Bakchodi chodo .... aukat pe aao !!!!
