And follow islam in the way they like.

As a long-term solution focusing on the youth is good, but I was speaking of a more short term solution. The thing is, its very complex and requires a multi-pronged approach in order to get the general public to think differently.

Also, the reason I brought up that point was because people would be against any kind of education reform unless we can show them it would be beneficial (like a religious leader telling them so). In an ideal world, people would just accept reforms and stay quiet, but in our world if something like that happened people would be outraged.

Very good point, however if people could understand what Sufism is and compare it to the neo-wahabism they try and preach, their minds would quickly change. As sad as it is, most people don't understand Islam and will just follow whatever other people tell them to.

well it work both ways .same is being done to the liberals too.i have explained what the term liberal actually means but desi liberal or desi gorey are used as derogatory terms.a liberal guy from south asia is always going to be desi but it doesn't mean he should be ridiculed for his race for holding liberal believes these believes are not race specific. don't you think it is unfair to him the same way it is unfair to mullahs .

well why do people use Maluvi and Mullah in derogatory way? every religious person is not a Maulvi or Mullah, only highly qualified and educated people are supposed to be honored with these titles...Same goes with liberals, i consider myself liberal but i don't abuse my own religion to be recognized as a liberal.
BTW i am desi too and i am proud of it, but most 'desi pseudo liberals' think that you only become liberal when you abuse your own religion and show disrespect to Scholars.
Islam is more liberal than these so called liberals, Islam teaches us to live peacefully with people of all faiths.

i agree with you mate.i never abused my religion to score petty points among those guys.
coming to your second point about why term mullah is being used as a derogatory term here because its a mud slinging competition going out here between both of these extremists.
i myself use the term mullah for the right wingers solely due to lack of better word as extremist word is already taken by taliban over here

We have to realise not every new idea is acceptable and not every old tradition is worth holding on to.
If true Christians, Jews, muslims, buddists or hindus/Sikhs live and follow their religions in true essence devoid of influence of other factors, there can be a libertarian society however practically speaking that is not possible so a new wave in liberalism is anti theistic, they blame religion for all the ills rather than the ills in basic human nature. Do all atheists do not indulge in crime?
We need to follow Islam according to Quran, Sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad PBUH, his companions and teachings of learned Ulema e Haq, Ijma and Ijtehad, follow and add new ideas if they fall under this criteria. For me the teachings of Islam had been completed during Hazrat Muhammed SAW however the application of each teaching in every different scenario was not complete and there is why Islam taught us how to get guidance if teaching about a certain matter was not found 'directly' in Quraan and Sunnah. If our 'niyaat' is true and in search of truth using method taught by Islam, we will remain progressive.

It is because people have forgotten differentiation of Ulema e haq and Ulema e su. They think in lines of sect rather than line of 'haq' and 'budd' A barelvi will die rather than listening to a Deobandi aalim, an ahle hadees will die first rather than listen to a Shia aalim and likewise. He would listen to an alim who would lead him to destruction or killing to create his own power base but won't listen to anAlim from another sect preaching sanctity of life. Unfortunately the fitnas of end of times are upon us.
