What caused overpopulation in Pakistan?

Industrialization= pollution= resource depletion= environmental destruction. We need less people and less industrialization to live in harmony with the environment.

An MBA neighbour lady of ours who works at a local bank has 3 kids while our house maid has 4 kids. Both of them work everyday from morning till evening.

Other examples are of my young cousins of both genders, all of them well educated living in the biggest city, in well off areas, most of the female cousins working are having kids every other year.

This thing about women working reduces population is more of a myth for urban Pakistani set up.

The vast expanse of Arabia is mostly taken up with one of the largest and driest deserts in the world. Until c. 1000 BCE, most of this region could support no significant human populations; and the desert conditions could not even support long-distant trade routes across them.

Southern Arabia (comprising modern Yemen and Oman) lies within the monsoon zone, and has enough rainfall to make agriculture possible. Farming there dates from at least 2000 BCE. However, the gradual development of a sophisticated irrigation system allowed more intensive farming to be practiced, and around 1000 BCE cities and kingdoms started to emerge.

When having more children is the only viable approach for his own betterment, what else would you expect from him?
How does having 8 children make it a viable option for a poor person? It makes him more poor.

Pakistan’s population is levelling out, the proverb not to cry over spilled milk comes to mind.
Use the population dividend, many nations are now dying out due to lack of people, just look at Europe. Also no nation on this earth is anywhere near the level of automation required to support population reduction and then look after a larger older population. Best guesses put us at least 70 years away.
By that time for many nations it will be a case of let the last person behind put the light out.
There has to be a balance between overpopulation and fast shrinking population.

Yes it will make him poorer in the meantime but children will grow up. Maybe some of them will be fairly successful. When you get older and more feeble physically, they can help you and support you. Sometimes it is more reliable than some vague promise from the government, which still need some able body, who has no feelings for you, to carry about the care.
