What caused overpopulation in Pakistan?

Online shopping might have played a role.

Age of bridge and groom marrying also plays a big role.

If Pakistan can manage to increase the minimum age to marry to 20, that will help. But implementation part is another story.

Less education is a result we listen blindly mullahs that say increase your family by giving birth so more Muslims in planet but there is no single word about how to decrease or increase of your family is written in Quran atleast I have not listened

Night at 12 o clock Karachi roads are jam packed

Bangladesh is a fertile deltaic country with ample fresh water and agriculture. So naturally it can support more people per sq. km than any other geographic feature. This is not the case with Pakistan. Baluchistan is a big desert, here goes 45 percent land of Pakistan. Half of Sindh is also desert. Southern Punjab is semi desert. Gilgit Baltistan is 99 percent rugged mountainous. Large part of KP also very much mountainous. This leave only northern Punjab suitable for any kind of dense settlement. Northen half of Punjab's population density is not much lower than Bangladesh.

Pakistan is already facing water shortage and other signs of overpopulation, what will happen when population hit 400 million by 2050 with reduced water flow in Indus and increasing desertification due to warming climate? Pakistan is going to be a big food importer to feed it's burgeoning population (if others can provide that much on international market) thus jeopardising it's strategic position vis a vis with India. Ever increasing population will eat away any economic gain hampering per capita improvement.

Both Pakistan and Nigeria are heading for a big population disaster. Bangladesh is also overpopulated, but it has already reduced fertility rate to acceptable rate and it's future population growth will be minimal and stop entirely by 2050s, giving it a chance to improve on a per capita basis.

Bangladesh has slowed down in growth because of it's density, not because it's people saw overpopulation as a bad thing. Balochistan alone is twice the size of Bangladesh with only ten million and it's because of what you wrote. It's a mostly non-fertile desert.

Any country that looses arable land as in the case of Bangladesh, experiences decline in growth. Sindh was artificially irrigated and so were parts of Punjab for land fertilization; hence the population explosion.

Simple. Lots of love or atleast loving.

No lots of calories. Fertile land offering plenty of rich nutritious food is the result of high birthrates and the subcontinent has it all.

Well lot of babies mean lot of sex happened. That what caused it.

Too many calories which is what's required for human reproduction which comes from food and Pakistan has lots of fertile land created by irrigation systems.

Food production needs to be regulated to stop so much calorie production in order to stop overpopulation.

Having a large population is a blessing. Having large human resources is a good thing.

Your comments also remind me of this book "In the name of 'progress'" from it's book cover:

Pakistan isn't self-sufficient with regards to food production anymore thanks to overpopulation.

Over-fertilization of lands by irrigation brought it there. Now food imports will continue supporting that growth probably.

1-Lack of Education and abundance of easy and cheap food in rural areas
2-Resistance from Religious extremists and their strong influence on people
3-Weak status of women in society to assert their resistance to "10 child family" and lack of working women class. Weak economic situation of women total dependency on men hance rule of man.
4-Societal thinking inspired by ancient tribal culture even in modern world. More children more strength
5-Wanting to have more Sons as an insurance policy for old age because state discards old people on death beds and women are too weak in this social structure to take care of there elderly parents.

summing up. The reason is this clusterf*** society of Pakistan. The Sour half baked cake of British Raj SouthAsian cultural legecies , Mullahs and a total Neglect from Government

Unnatural fertilization of land. Too much food means too many people. How did Saudi Arabia end up with a smaller population than all of Sindh alone? They are one of the most extremist countries in the world.

Sindh has more fertile land. It was artificially irrigated. Too much food is being produced. Fertilizing non-fertile land is ecologically destructive.

Balochistan remains sparsely populated since it's too dry to support human population in larger numbers.

But Saudi Arabian Extremism is state controlled unlike Pakistani Shutar bemahaar where any mullah from any street can incite people with whatevee interpretation they want. Its not even sects anymore. Every Organization or jamaat is indipendent. There is a massive difference between Mullaism in countries like Saudia and Iran Compared to "Shutar Be Mahaar" Mullah of Pakistan. They wont allow there clergy speak anything against there state interest.
Good luck finding Irani Mullahs that support Azerbaijan against Armenia Despite Azerbaijan being 85% Shia.

Also try fundings Saudi Mullah giving sermons against Saudi Govt for there operations in Sunni Yemen.

This bemari is only found in Pakistan.

Dont give them a discount over this. People start calling you having "Lack of Faith" "Secular" even Nafarmaan of Rasuul SAW even if you try to bring this discussion of controlling number of children. Lady Health workers are being shot at even in Big cities like Karachi. This mentality is all thanks to Mullahs and not Fertile lands unfortunately.

Fertile lands were responsible for baby boom across the world in 50s 60s. But 70s 80s generations around the globe became aware and controlled the population. China USA hell even Bangladesh. All have checked growth rate from .3 to 1% There Fertile lands are still there. But our beloved homeland Pakistan. Salute

China yes. USA no. Their population is still thinly distributed state by state. Northern states are mountainous and cold wintered; wheras southern states are more semi-arid deserts.

Bangladesh is to dense to support growth. It is running low on arable land; hence the decline.

Balochistan alone is up to twice the size of Bangladesh but has only about ten million people. It's not like the Baloch & Brahuis decided to wise up and produce smaller populations.

The land there is not fertile to support many people. Simple ecology.
