Vingroup looks to establish second car plant in central Vietnam

HANOI: Vietnam's biggest conglomerate Vingroup is looking to establish a second VinFast automobile plant in the country, according to documents submitted to local authorities which were reviewed by Reuters.

The planned construction would be on a 3,700 acre plot in the northern central province of Ha Tinh, be developed by Vingroup's Vinhomes property unit and house a new car plant and supported facilities, according to the documents, which were submitted to the Ha Tinh People's Committee on April 13.

News of the expansion comes after sources told Reuters that VinFast, Vietnam's first domestic car manufacturer, was considering an initial public offering in the United States in a deal that could value the carmaker at about $60 billion.

The new plant will be for producing and assembling cars and parts, the statement said.

A Vingroup spokesman was unable to provide comment.

"Local authorities and Vinhomes will meet and work together soon to finalise the plan," a local official in Ha Tinh told Reuters by phone. The official declined to be named because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

VinFast became Vietnam's first fully fledged domestic car manufacturer when its first gasoline-powered models built under its own badge hit the streets in 2019.

The company sold about 30,000 vehicles last year and has forecast sales of more than 45,000 for 2021. It is aiming to begin delivery of electric vehicles produced at its factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong to domestic customers by December this year.

Sources said last month Taiwan's Foxconn was in early stage talks with VinFast about partnering in electric vehicles.

Any place Ha Tinh and North is considered the most uncontroversial and absolute geographical and political North of Vietnam.

Hue to Danang and a clear defined central.

Nha Trang to the rest of the South is South.

Other place one can argue here and there, no fix definition.
 
I read so much boastful statements on Vinfast expansion to overseas market, particulary USA and Europe.

Yet...

In Malaysia, two of our domestic brands - Proton and Perodua, sold 329,879 cars in 2020, and despite our small population of only 32 million people, 480,965 passengers cars of all brands were sold in Malaysia in 2020.

Our first domestic car manufacturer - Proton
"2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and the car industry is no exception. Despite losing more than 2 months of car production and sales due to the MCO, Proton has managed to sell 109,716 vehicles for the whole of 2020. This marks an 8.8% increase over 100,821 units sold in 2019 and it’s the highest annual sales since 2015."

Second domestic car manufacturer - Perodua
"KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 3): Perodua said today the car manufacturer aims to sell 240,000 vehicles in 2021, a 9% increase from the 220,163 units sold in 2020 on strong demand for its existing models and the extension of the sales tax exemption in Malaysia.

In addition, with 2020 ending better than previously expected for both Perodua and the automotive industry, the company said today it plans to boost its 2021 car production target to 272,000 vehicles, the highest in the group's history."

Malysian buy Proton car maybe bcs its cheap while the cheapest Vinfast cars ( Fadil) is abt 14,000usd and many Vnese still using motorbikes bcs most of VN roads are small, not suitable for driving cars yet.

Not mentioning Proton car could be just a rebrand CN car and u just changed the logo. That's why u can't sell Proton cars to US like Vinfast car.

Vinfast also have a very good after sales policy, Vinfast technicans also can fix the cars very fast while I bet that Malaysian technicians don't even know how to fix Proton cars bcs u sold Proton to CN Geely

Vinfast is in the north, Vinhome when becoming second carmaker should be in central or south. Better to have the factories in different regions.

Just came back from Ha Tinh, there are many Vingroup's housing projects there.

Seem like Vingroup boss already made a good plan for Ha Tinh,his mother hometown, years ago.

Now still very poor, the 3 brothers Nhe An, Thang Hoa, Ha Thinh. People very cunning. Disproportional national leaders come from there.

People from Hanoi very scare of renting house to these 3 province people.

They like living in their own groups, thats why when they make trouble, then its a big trouble.

But at least they still wanna live in their provinces and protect the lands when North and South Vnese dont wanna live there.

I also see lots of Cnese living in Vinhome/ Vin apartments in ha Tinh. So, we should say thanks to ha Tinh people to help us protect those lands from Han Cnese :lol:

Central is a poor place poor people they have nothing to lose. Most fighters and revolutionary come from there. Bad weather lots of rain, tropical storms, scare lands bringing little harvests, little industry, manufacturing.

They can scare Cnese in Ha Tinh, lots of Cnese come to work in Vung Ang industrial zone, still remember 2014 riots in Vung Ang ??

Do u wanna live in Ha Tinh ?? :laugh:
