China influence over today economy is no small things in fact their contribution to the world econ is enormous. Any self-interested power (and all powers are self-interested) would not choose China in that scenario, as the US remains a viable alternative to regional hegemony and doesn't ask the same territorial, economic, and cultural genuflection that you imply and we see signs China is asking for, and has demanded in the past.

The point is that over time the US would no longer be any kind of viable alternative to the Chinese.

China's economy is on the verge of overtaking yours and the military will grow more powerful(eventually) as a result.

What on earth is a distant US going to do to "protect" countries like Japan against a determined Chinese attack from across the Japanese sea? You don't believe a few carrier battle groups would even make any kind of dent against the Chinese Navy and airforce do you?
