US panel calls for Pakistan membership of G-20

Main sectors that contribute to Pakistan's Economy is Agriculture and textile. Now during Mus regime these sectors were doing just ok, it was the easy credit that Pakistan was getting from IMF and other international agencies created an bubble which fueled your economy.

As far your automobile sector is concerned , Pakistan does very little manufuring and you guys just assemble the vehicles , so Pakistani money that went into ur automobile sector went abroad.

Listen 80% of your population live on less than half a dollar a day, your own criteria for poverty is 12 rupees a day, a country that poor with that much disparity between rich and poor has no right to lecture anyone. :disagree:

My dear , the security council is suppose to work for the world peace , There are about1.5 billion muslims existing in the world , major disputes are in the largely muslim populated areas , What India can do about worlds peace ? I think a representative group of leading muslim countries should get permanent seat in UNSC. This can play a positive role in worlds peace , rather then the India.

The problem is which country in the Islamic world is trusted to represent them?

Also if you suggest OIC,it pointless, considering the fact how fragmented its leadership is.

india's has little influence in Africa, South and Central America, not much influence in the middle east, and not much in the far east, in Europe and America, there is growing hostility because of out sourcing it is the unfortunate reality.

Another totally useless organization is SAARC, in my opinion they should dissolve this totally waste of space talking shop, there is no such thing as South Asia, it is a made up region, which has little in common with each other, except membership of the British Empire

one thing G20 is not an economic integration forum, so there r no explicit benefits like mutual trade concession n the like..at the most
It studies, reviews, and promotes discussion (among key industrial and emerging market countries) of policy issues pertaining to the promotion of international financial stability, and seeks to address issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one organization.
so even if pakistan joins it ll be discussing some financial imbalance issues at the most..y is it hurting some indian members' ego is unintelligible to me..

2nd thing its not a forum of top 20 economies..there r 19 countries + EU..among top 20 economies, spain, netherlands, switzerland, belgium arent in G20 whereas saudi arabia (26), Argentina (31) n EU (an economic bloc as a whole) r there..so no issue of making it G47 or whatever

regarding GDP measurement considering nominal GDP or PPP depends on the our own POV n the angle from which we r studying the economy..directly they arent comparable even..development economists consider PPP far better than nominal one n it doesnt adjusts for inflation..so it can b equally misleading..

btw therez GDP pc also n Pakistan is above india in that..

Yes Saudia and Iran both can represent all the muslims of the world , even indian muslims. It would be wise to give UNSC to be given both SAUDIA and Iran.

If saudi can rep. indian muslim then why cant India as a whole rep. hindu muslim sikhs n buddhist as a whole n muslim all over world can see themselve in indian muslims whose representative is India as a nation

In both GDP, nominal and by PPP, per capita India is ahead of Pakistan

GDP(nominal/capita)

GDP(PPP)/capita
thats old data..pakistan pc income is 1,067.971 as per imf data n 1250 per another estimate..n CIA fact book put them equal at 1000..

Though nothing to feel proud about.

However i hope Pakistan doesn't get complacent being in G-20
yeah nothing to b proud..need to "do more" here...:agree:

GDP (PPP) ignores international trade, while GDP (nominal) ignores cost of living in different countries. Both have draw backs; however GDP (nominal) require less estimation, hence the GDP (nominal) is preferred over GDP (PPP). However, it is always better to consider other economic parameters in addition to GDP (PPP) and GDP (nominal) while arriving at a conclusion. This has nothing to do with development economics

By the way, according to IMF (2009 estimates), India’s GDP per capita is 1,032 USD while Pakistan’s is 989 USD. CIA data is a guesstimate and not to be relied upon.

The data which i presented is based on 2009,considering the floods and also the economy being sluggish,i doubt that any such change has happened.

I"ve checked CIA factbook and they seem to have the same data here too.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/in.html

Will check this IMF report though.

haha..i talked abt CIA factbook data from the link u provided..well thats causing confusion, a few $s up or down is not what matters n seriously am not up for an pak-india comparison..that was meant to b on a lighter note..the point is we need to work more as these arent enviable figures..

i have said it already that the unit depends on our angle of study..n it has very much to do with development economics ..(read todaro)

btw according to IMF 2010 figures pakistans oc income is 1067.971

Report for Selected Countries and Subjects
n CIA fact book gives source of info..so not guesstimates..

Barely ahead, thats the thing with India and Pakistan. In the things we are ahead we are just barely ahead and vice versa. The fact is putting it quite simply we both suck .

As for membership of G-20, why shouldnt Pakistan be allowed to join? Our economy was going great, before the past few years. Inshallah when this period has passed we will work our way up again. Anyways if you say India should get a seat in the security council then i believe it is hypocritical to say Pakistan should not be allowed into the G-20

Man you are seriously mistaken .........We have UN to discuss politics .....G20 is an economic forum.....the only clout that majorly accounts in G20 is Economic.
And remember if you are talking about US clout then this clout though one of the major force in G20, is decreasing.....the US is feeling the economic pinch of other countries ,especially CHINA. I am surprised though that this push did not come from the chinese.

Dont be so surprised because the push did not come from the US as well, its just one panel who calls for US support and since you did mention about China, Pakistan will not face any problem securing Chinese support for the G-20 membership once it comes down to that.

Not really... G20 is effectively an economic forum..they don't discuss politics there..It's no UN..G20 mainly focuses on worlds economic issues..Pakistan is too small to have any impact on it..I would guess US would suggest observer status but only if none of the other 25 countries objects to it.

I am not trying to be anti-Pakistan here. I couldn't care less if Pakistan gets it..Its inconsequential to India as well..I am just stating the obvious..

I never said it discusses political issues, however joining a forum such as the G-20 and specially if powers like US and China back you, why wouldn't we get a membership. Observer status or not is mere speculation.....after all we can all agree to disagree.

P.S there is no such thing as obvious.
