TO pass from Manbij to Afrin... without passing throu' FSA/TR territories... you NEED to pass throu' RU/ASSad ones...
If you want to pass via FSA/TR territories...then you have to fight all of Al Bab pocket...

From Manbij to Rza a road passes through Turkish controlled region and then they will pass through RU controlled region. So this is not going to Afrin but this is an Attack on Rza a because there is only one road. Afrin is lost they are mobilizing to stop Turkish advance further east.

This is the reason Iraq did not capture Fishkhabour and sync up to the Turkish border a few months back when the Kirkuk operation kicked off. The US disapproved of it, they wanted to keep a land connection from KRG to YPG.
