ISLAMABAD: A case has been registered under Section 320 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against a US diplomat who ran down bikers on Thursday night, Geo News reported.
“Under the said section, the American diplomat faces charges of unintentional murder, in this case killing by reckless driving. It is defined as any act or omission done by mistake of fact or mistake of act which causes the death of a human being without any intention or knowledge”, an officer at the Secretariat Police Station, where the FIR was lodged, told Geo News.
The accident involved a US consular vehicle, which rammed a motorbike from behind on Margallah Road right outside the Punjab House.
Eyewitnesses added, at the time of the accident two men, one at the handle bar and the other on the pillion, were riding the motorcycle.
According to sources, the bikers identified as Shozab Raza and Muzammil Shah, were employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), were going home after a long day at the Parliament Lodges where they worked, when the accident took place.
Muzammil Shah breathed his last in the emergency room of Poly Clinic, however Shozab Raza is said to be out of danger. It is pertinent to mention that following the roadside mishap the US diplomat was also hospitalized for reportedly feeling too sick to stay in the stationhouse.
According to media reports the car involved in the accident has been impounded.
A large number of angry passers-by surrounded the US embassy vehicle after the accident but the police brought the situation under control well in time saving a most probable international lynching.
Muzzamil Shah, who was an employee of CDA for the last six years, is survived by a window and a seven-year-old daughter.
Further investigation is underway.
