US defence secretary-elect terms Pakistan 'essential partner'

.
No MORE F16S PLease!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, so what is your backup plan?

JF-17 Block III. Seriously?!!

Even if you were resting on its laurels, there is NO B3 at the moment and it'll be a while before a few even make their mark on a Squadron.

So again, what's your backup plan when you're being charged against Rafales, Su-30's & Mirage-2000's?

You do know the F-16's we got off Jordan aren't restricted to the End-User Agreement.

If you've got a logical solution to our problem, do speak up with a valid answer.

US defence secretary-elect terms Pakistan 'essential partner'

WASHINGTON:
US defence secretary-elect former General Lloyd Austin on Wednesday termed Pakistan 'an essential partner' in the Afghan peace process, saying he will deter regional actors from spoiling the peace of the region, in an apparent reference to arch-rivals India.

"Pakistan is an essential partner in any peace process in Afghanistan," Gen Austin said while responding to a question regarding his policy as the top defence official of the country.

He added, "If confirmed, I will encourage a regional approach that garners support from neighbors like Pakistan, while also deterring regional actors, from serving as spoilers to the Afghanistan peace process."
“Pakistan will play an important role in any political settlement in Afghanistan.”

Lauding Pakistan's role in the regional peace process, Gen Austin said, "I understand Pakistan has taken constructive steps to meet US requests in support of the Afghanistan peace process. Pakistan has also taken steps against anti-Indian groups, such as Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, although this progress is incomplete."

He noted that "many factors in addition to the security assistance suspension may impact Pakistan’s cooperation, including Afghanistan negotiations and the dangerous escalation following the Pulwama attack."

The former US Central Command commander added that he would focus on shared interests between Washington and Islamabad “which include training future Pakistan military leaders through the use of International Military Education and Training funds”.

Trump had suspended Pakistan participation in the IMET program in August 2018. The US administration later resumed the facility afforded to military officers from Pakistan in December 2019.
IMET affords spaces to foreign military officers at US military education institutions, such as the US Army War College and the US Naval War College.

However, the former four-star general maintained that he “will press Pakistan” to prevent its territory from being used by militants or other violent organisations” and said he would continue to build relationships with Pakistani military to “provide openings for the United States and Pakistan to cooperate on key issues”.

On December 7, 2020, President-elect Joe Biden chose retired General Lloyd Austin, who oversaw U.S. forces in the Middle East under President Barack Obama, to be his defense secretary.

Lift all kind of embargoes from Pakistan. Allow Pakistans industry to buy any hardware any software from USA. Then we will talk.

But...but....but...theres many Indians under Biden why....
like I said, Indians or Pakistanis under Biden, does not matter, whatever is in the interest of usa will happen.

I am pretty confused. The most powerful nation in the world wants to be friends and you don’t want that? Alhumdulillah we don’t NEED the US right now to avoid the IMF or balance of payments crisis. We have an excellent jet with Jf17 and a partner supplying us with high technology weapons. Certainly our military budget is limited and in USD terms has diminished. The CSF - money the US owes us - will help. FMF will help. EDA such as MRAPs or f16s will help. The AH1Z will help. As others have said the f16 will not replace jf17 but 50 year old mirages or F7p. This will be a bonus. It will allow us to use the money where needed. Do you think we have Hussain Haqqani sittings in gov currently or Moeed Yusuf? Do we have Zardari or Imran Khan? There will always be those who sell out our government. But this is a more confident Pakistan. When the Saudis pushed us, we returned their money. Be optimistic inshallah this is the beginning of new phase in our relationship. Accept the help but don’t accept the strings. The US needs us more than we need them. They totally cut us off for 3 years and in that time we have shown them and the world what we can do to India in Feb 2019 militarily and economically on the right path inshallah.

I think the value of Pakistan isn't in all the things it can do, but also in acting as a counter to India. As in, using Pakistan as a leverage against India.

The Chinese understand this well but the reality of this isn't lost to the Americans as well. They can threaten India indirectly by offering military equipment or support to Pakistan.

Correct.
And often you will see Indians upset and distrustful of Americans because Indians, with some justifications, see Pakistan as a tool to be used against India. Currently, India is rightfully trying to not go too far in opening a too hot front against China--to the annoyance of America. The Americans would LOVE to see India and China go to war against each other! But if there is a need for America to push India harder on China and India refuses--then some weapons and trade deals for Pakistan might convince India to tow the line.

It's said that Pakistan's geopolitical location is one of it's greatest assets and even some American strategists have said that Pakistan is 'uniquely placed' to get advantages from both USA and China. So take what you can--cautiously, of course! American help wasn't always bad for Pakistan and the Pakistanis know that well.

Geopoltically if US reapproaches with China and becomes more anti-Russian, you can expect Indian foreign and defence policy to be screwed for next few years.

1) US more keen on China trade and lukewarm support for India
2) CAATSA sanctions
3) Made enemies of China (world's largest economy in 5 years)
4) US Mil aid to Pak
5) More US noise on Kashmir/.Human rights

I would say it could potentially be very bad for India

that is almost sacriligious . to even suggest you need old f16 over block 3 thunders,to counter Rafale mirage2000 su30mki threat..

the block 3 supposed to be good enough with pl15 and aesa .

your lack of confidence in this is alarming but sobering honest of you..

f16 was and is and will remain the only barrier to total.superemacy by India in the air...

most people know this deep down

hence the rush let's quickly ask for f16s just as biden arrives in white house

very predictable but your options are limited

love your utopian world yasser.
I could not think of more perfect Storm.
but alas
in this scenario
but there is a 5g and covid war between China, and the West
build up of a quad alliance long term.
Chinese threat to usa allies in South East China
usa, will.never forget Osama bin Laden fiasco ever
finally indian decent people all over usa politics

. .
Despite us severing military ties with France, people have no issue with us buying old Mirages, why the issue with us buying old F-16s if we can?
old mirage dont need french poking around as we can rebuild them ourselves and have mastered the aircraft well. F16 needs permission from the yanks for every little thing and it's kept under watch. two completely opposed things.

Yes, but when we already have US with our F-16 bases and we were able to use them during Feb 27th with no repucussions than what harm is there in adding more numbers and thus easily retiring more Mirages and F-7s, by your criteria than shall we just give up all our F-16s and ask US to leave? Fail to understand the logic here

Unlike you, I am not 100% certain of anything. US has very short memory and will act in it'c current interests, not past, just like US did not care about Indian anti-US politics of the past.

Right now what may be a priority for US is

taking on Russia
Trade with China
Afghan withdrawl

All three of the above do not bode well for India

Let me know if you think that is "Utopia" or maybe try and pick up an issue of the Economist once on a while rather than rely on Anarb Goswami for your world view....

.
I don't think that's in Pakistan's interests. Afghan peace process yes, but not military ties with the US. It's in Pakistan's interests to keep US at an arms length.

I think we should play all partners China and the west. We should learn from chankia there are no permanent enemies or friends in state craft

I think you mean: sacrilegious

I'm a realist. The Block III will be a good enough jet to counter Mirage's & it'll be walkover the LCA Tejas by a mile.

But, lets not kid ourselves that the Rafale is a good jet which needs to be dealt by a heavy hitter. One would remember that back in Feb 2019, India didn't have anything in its arsenal to counter us. And that included the mighty Su-30MKi.

Again, i'm a realist and know what the PL-15 & the AESA are capable off.

You see - right there you made the mistake of underestimating your opponent. The F-16 is currently the go-to Fighter Jet in our Airforce and has proven over and over.

But to think that it is the only one is a mistake. Indians may want to make fun of our Joint Venture with China with the Thunder, but they too have some remarkable jets that we can opt for to counter the Rafales.

No one is rushing. We're just contemplating what the Americans have on the table. PMIK could've asked for F-16's when he met with Trump a couple of years back, but it may not have favored us. Again, based on the article its the US that wants to engage us, not the other way around.

We'll see how things unfold in the next few weeks/months.

We, here on PDF may be predictable - but that's because none of us have served in the Military. I assure you that our Air Force knows exactly what they're doing.

Currently, I think you guys are in the hot seat for the S-400.

We can settle for the J-10C's too.

How can the US revive something on its own unless both parties want it and i dont think PA has the stomach after the recent saga with cia stooge caught.
There should be a no military to military contact between Pak and US. Period!
@RealNapster i understood later what you referring at. Pakistan should stay clear from all paths that lead to US specially military.

usa, India strategic interests started to merge in days,of Clinton. The USA saw,the need to have a strong India in their desire contain China and keep India Ocean firmly under usa grip . indian and usa interests, converge deeply . took decades,to manifest by several presidents.
your incredibly short sighted and overly optimistic if you think one single weapons deal would be allowed too undo decades of work.
usa India Japan Australia is here to stay .
s400 purchase will.not stop.that
India politicians are veterans we have good influential indian origin American politicians in white house to ensure no major problems.
American equipment will continue to arrive
and India will remain a major ally of all.western nations and indeed Russia too
