Featured US blocks delivery of Turkish gunships to Pakistan

.
The aging Cobras need to be retired at the earliest. Replacements need to occur in the short term. Pakistan should seek alternatives urgently.
How many countries are still flying these Cobras? Plenty I take it and spares are not an issue really. We are still flying Sea Kings that are a decade older than the Cobras and they seem to be doing just fine in the more corrosive marine environment. I think if Japan and Thailand can still fly these AH-1F models, so can we. Again, I dont see any urgency on PA part to replace them even if it would have liked to by now. Refurbish them the best you can (look at Iran doing it) and install upgrades as you see fit.

One word.

Alhumdulillah. Turkey focus on the engine. Pakistan know your enemy
Pdf defence "experts" would likely ditch a cost effective and state of the art weapon system in favour of any thing handicapped if has western origin -------

e.g a Pakistani version of f16 would still perfrom way better in war than a j10/j17 even though it has no aesa ,standoff weapon carrying capability and is over priced without Pakistani having access to its source codes ------- still is "best"
Oh dear
IMHO, the Best step can be an announcement of a joint Sino-Pak-Turkish gunship project. No need to do anything fancy. Simply use either pick a Chinese system and integrate some Turkish sub-systems (even 1 or 2 would make it a collaboration), or pick T-129 and see if some Chinese engine can work with it. Let's show Uncle Sam that the era of US monopoly over mil tech is over.
Make the withdrawal of US painful from Afghanistan. If I was PM I would make them bleed whilst showing them we are friends and have their interest at heart.

amreekans are too smart for their own good. the only leverage they have is the engine & with a struggling economy, you'd think they'd let the sale go through but alas, with the Chinese Z10 along with Turkey's locally made twin turbine engine, you can expect to see longer unemployment lines of americans because their policy makers have their heads stuck far too deep up their @$$es to realize what they are doing to their falling economy...

It might be reconsidered again. :pakistan: 🚁:usflag:

Don't count on it, the Zulu is never coming to Pakistan.

Unless the Turks can offer a replacement engine within a reasonable period of time, this deal is dead.

Looks like PA is going to buy Chinese once again.

Meanwhile, Biden seems to be eating the same glue that Trump and Obama were, not realizing that he's sacrificing long term US interests for short term political gains. So much for people on here claiming that Biden is pro-Pakistan.

Its not a matter of replacement or even spare parts, its a problem of numbers. Pakistan simply has too few attack helicopters for the amount + types of military operations that it conducts. Plus the threat of an ever increasing numbers of India tanks, and heavy armor have made close range air support extremely vital for Pakistan's defense.

WASHINGTON: The United States has prevented Turkey from supplying 30 locally-made attack helicopters to Pakistan, diplomatic sources in Washington told Dawn.
According to Bloomberg News, Turkey’s presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told reporters on Monday that “the US has blocked Turkey’s helicopter sale to Pakistan, which will likely lead to Islamabad buying it from China.”
The ATAK T-129 is a twin-engine, tandem seat, multi-role, all-weather attack helicopter based on the Agusta A129 Mangusta platform and is equipped with American engines.
The US is holding up export clearance for the LHTEC engine.
The blockade could “cause more harm” to US interests, Mr Kalin added.
Turkey and Pakistan signed a $1.5 billion deal for the Turkish-made helicopter gunships in July 2018. But the delivery date was pushed back after the Pentagon refused to issue the Turkish company an export license for the engines.
The Turkish official mentioned the US blockade while briefing journalists on the impact of US sanctions on Turkey, triggered by Ankara’s decision to buy S-400 missiles from Russia.
He said Turkey was forced to buy Russian missiles because Washington had refused to supply Patriot air defence missiles systems to Ankara on favorable terms. The sanctions are designed to deter any country from signing military deals with Russia and restrict US loans and credits to a defaulter.
Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in partnership with a European firm, Agusta-Westland, the ATAK T-129 helicopter is designed for advanced attack and reconnaissance missions in hot and high environments in both day and night conditions.
The United States announced the first blockade in July 2019, days before a meeting between the former US president, Donald Trump, and Prime Minister Imran Khan in Washington.
In January 2020, the head of Turkey’s Defence Industries (SSB) said that Ankara and Islamabad had extended the delivery deal by another year to ensure a smooth delivery. The agreement gives Pakistan the option to buy the Chinese Z-10 helicopters should the Turkish deal not materialize.
Reports in the Turkish media said that the Turkish-built T-129 ATAK helicopter was still on the Pakistan Army shopping list.
In August 2020, Turkey hired a Washington law firm to lobby with the US administration and Congress for securing an export license which will help complete its biggest ever defence deal with Pakistan.
The US firm Greenberg Traurig and its subcontractor were paid a monthly retainer of $25,000 to lobby for the deal.
The latest blockade, however, is likely to force the two allies to cancel the deal, persuading Islamabad to look for other options.
US officials in Washington were contacted for comments on the announcement made in Ankara but did not respond.

Turkey has made their own engine for this same reason America banned the sale years ago and Turkey started developing an engine its completed if I am not wrong..

Why we never went for Russian option like Ka-52 or Mil-28 latest versions??

. . .
As I said, you should contact PAF and ask them to dump all their F-16's because they are useless and got no teeth, I am sure they will listen to you and not the highly qualified pilots. And as for your evangelicals comment, I am surprised you didn't mention Dajjal system blocking Pakistan's Progression to dominate the world.

Jf 17 program and the subsequent blocks are enough of a proof to find out what "wonder tech" was missing in f16 . And since Pakistan has finally taken a side , no one now in the Pakistani national security apparatus seems eager enough to pay anymore tribute to the evangelicals by procuring scaled down weaponry . Anyways the PAA might eventually end up picking the formidable chinese Helis with no strings attached

My knowledge about helicopters is quite meagre but I wonder why Pakistan isn't considering Rolls-Royce Gem engine that is being used on the original Agusta A129 Mangusta by the Italians? We could either go directly to Britain or negotiate the Italian version, if possible. I don't think either countries would be as problematic as the U.S. If able to be integrated Pakistan should consider the engines with ToT.

Additionally, would the Rolls-Royce Gem engines be able to integrate with Z-10? @Bilal Khan (Quwa)

Just look at the source Dawn can anyone believe this report...
