91st birthday of revolutionary poet Habib Jalib is being observed across the country on Sunday.

Habib Jalib was born on March 24, 1928, in a village near Hoshiarpur in British India and died on March 12, 1993.

He migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India and worked as a proofreader in Daily Imroze, Karachi.

He was a progressive writer and soon started to grab the audience with his enthusiastic recitation of poetry.

He wrote in plain language, adopted a simple style and addressed common people and issues.

But the conviction behind his words, the music of his voice and his emotional energy coupled with the sensitivity of the socio-political context is what stirred the audience.

His famous collections include Ser-e-Maqtal, Zikr Behte Khoon Ka, Gumbad-e-Bedar and Kulyaat-e-Habib Jalib.

Kahin gas ka dhuan hae
kahin golion ki baarish
Shab-e-ehd-e-kum nigahi
tujhay kis tarah sarahein

There is smoke of teargas in the air
and the bullets are raining all around
How can I praise thee
the night of the period of shortsightedness

Tujh sang bair lagaya aisa..
(Such enmity i had towards you)
Raha na main phir apne jaisa
(That i ceased to be my own self)
Mera naam ishq..tera naam ishq
(My name is love..your name is love)
Mera naam..tera naam
(My name..your name)
Mera naam ishq ..
(My name is love)
Ye laal ishq..
(this love is red..)
Ye malal ishq..
(This love is regret..)
Ye aib ishq..
(This love is a flaw..)
Ye bair ishq..
(This love is enmity..)
Apna naam badal doon..
(Should i change my name)
Ya tera naam chhupa loon..
(Or should i hide your name)
Ya chhod ke saari aag main vairaag utha loon..
(Or should i give up the fire within me and choose reclusion instead)
Bas ek rahe mera kaam ishq..
(And only one work i shall have for myself..thats love)
Mera kaam ishq..mera kaam ishq..
(Love's my only work..love's my only work)
Mera naam ishq..tera naam ishq
(My name is love..your name is love)
Mera naam..tera naam
(My name..your name)
Mera naam ishq ..
(My name is love) Ye laal ishq..
(this love is red..)
Ye malal ishq..
(This love is regret..)
Ye aib ishq..
(This love is a flaw..)
Ye bair ishq..
(This love is enmity..)
Ye kaali raat jakad loon..
(I shall hold on to this dark night)
Ye thanda chand pakad loon..
(And i shall grab this cold moon)
(And i shall turn around/demolish this dark difference of day and night)
Tujh sang bair lagaya aisa..
(Such enmity i had towards you)
Raha na main phir apne jaisa
(That i ceased to be my own self)
Mera naam ishq..tera naam ishq
(My name is love..your name is love)
Mera naam..tera naam
(My name..your name)
Mera naam ishq ..
(My name is love)
Ye laal ishq..
(this love is red..)
Ye malal ishq..
(This love is regret..)
Ye aib ishq..
(This love is a flaw..)
Ye bair ishq..
(This love is enmity..)
