Indian army still uses about 800 T55s and Vijayantar in active service. Now if I correctly remember A.K.Antony told in parliament last year that IA would replace all of their older tanks with Arjuns. Now FMBT will not come untill atleast 2022,so induction no earlier than 2024 at best.So there is over a decade is left and so Arjun mk2s will have to be produced in order to keep the HVF runnig. So at current 60 tanks per year over 700 mk2s can be produced.
Now if we look at the army force level the IA has a recomended tank force of 4600 tanks. In future there will be 1600 T 90s,2000 T 72s will be started to replace by FMBT.So there will be a gap of near 1000 tanks which can be filled by Arjuns. So I think Arjun still has its place in IA tank force.
