UK proposes building future warships with India

good offes but it is entierly depend on MoD, and how they see this project.
And knowing MoD of India we can safely assume that this offer will require more then policy change, it will require a hole change of cherecter in them to accept that.

I think the recent admission of failures of almost all the naval projects might help in this area not to mention we have a really good relationship with UK. Our defence industries are right now not strong enough to support a fully indigenous warship development. Most of the major parts are purchased from outside but things are changing in the weapon front. Brahmos and Barack 8 are the best in the world.

We need a system like US Aegis. We can study the features of Aegis and give the task to Indian-Israeli JVs to build such a system. We need to build our own radars for warships and different kind of torpedos, turbines and engines. All this we can gain from JV with UK. Not to mention cost of JV will be less and quality will be good.

I really like the sound of this, I really hope though that it doesn't slip through the IN's hands because of it getting lost through the beauracratic black hole that is the MoD.

GoI should grab on tight with both hands- a dream, rare, opportunity to develop quality products, be involved heavily with the design and manufacturing process and than operate them. It would put some serious mettle in India's maritime defence industry and elevate it to even greater heights.

Not gonna happen...MoD will not allow this. What will govt. owned shipyards do if L&T and PIPAVAV start getting the contracts..?

No need to be negetive!!!. At least its better than going to Russia right??, If this were the case earlier then the Modified Talwar class and Talwar class frigates could have been built in India...and Even the Fleet tankers too....

They have already delayed a lot of projects and there is a risk of delay of further inductions. Parallel construction or divided contracts will help us get our frigates faster and competition will keep a check on price escalations. Besides, there is a huge export market waiting to be tapped.

I know britain offered us AC and yeah they even offered us Type 26 before but this time they are talking about building consortium for future naval warships. Take a look at this concept of BAE systems.

We will be building these warships in India if we become partner with them.

No sir this is actually a month old news Brits offered us this when they were here for MMRCA deal lobbying.
I would personally loved to go with our own Shivalik but the name BAe makes me confuse about it.

Britain's industrial base is not as strong as let's say Germany. Not like as it used to be in the good old days. These ventures would certainly be beneficial for both parties. British warships are some of the best and most advanced in the world.

Its not the Industrial base which is in question here. Its the company like BAE systems. Imagine you get a tech partnership with company!!
Plus BAE system in Germany and in UK are the same.

Actually , its a good Idea
According to Indian Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma " Even after inducting the 3 Shiwalik class Frigates and 3 Talwar class Frigates apart from Inducting 3 Kolkata class Destroyers and Placing orders for 7 P17A Frigates and 4 P15B Destroyers , Indian Navy will still be short of 7 Principle Surface combatant by 2022" ie against a requirement of 24 Frigates and 12 Destroyers , we would have only 19 Frigates and 10 Destroyer in 2022 ,
Hence there was a Proposal To order additional 4 Modified Talwar class Frigates at the cost of 3 Billion USD

If you people dont know , but currently Indian Maritime requirements call for 27 Principle Surface combatants and 18 Diesel subs but we only have 20 Principle Surface Combatants and 14 Subs

In My opinion , It is a good Idea to order 4-5 CGS or Type 26 Frigates instead of ordering another 4 Talwar class Frigates , simply becoz Talwar class though quite capable is still inferior to the current Shivalik class Frigates and they were only ordered becoz they were cheap and Russia promised to deliver them in 6 yrs

Interesting news, but the offer is not really surprising when you look at the current financial situation of the UK and their defence industry. They are grabbing any straw that could safe them and they even deepen their ties with their old rival France because of that. BAE and Dassault now joint for hunter killer UAVs and BAE possibly join the NEURON soon as well.
On the other side, Indian naval defence industry is in a good state and don't forget the statements of the Def Min that we soon won't buy forreign vessels anymore and will build anything necessary in this field in India. So if at all, we might go for JV, or co-development (like we do for IAC 2), but it should be unlikely that we will buy their frigats, or destroyers.

I think they need India to fund their QE class carriers.

The idea is JVs, man. Indian shipbuilding is slow in speed but it is state of the art. We recently built stealth warships and that is not all, we've gone ahead to build an aircraft carrier from scratch. It might take some time but since we aren't a war economy, we're learning it gradually, especially the Navy (Army and air force are slower).

In short, we have enough capability to understand and join in a joint venture with the Europeans, in which we can access better technologies and assimilate it into our shipbuilding system. There is no outright "buying".

Well, if Russia can take your fund for their PAK FA program, then why not UK?
