TVC -vs- JHMCS ?

wrong we need not select american planes for jhmcs.
we can get it from israel like the way tejas uses elbit's hmds

Now this is what i really hate when people don't understand the whole concept and bring their ego in.

JHMCS is NOT Just that Bloody helmet it is a System that aquires and processes the Information from on board sensors , Radar , Targeting pods ie Sniper , IRST etc and then that Info is projected in that Helmet to the pilot for the best decision.

Moreover JHMCS supports HOBS to complete the game and Let me tell you if you buy JHMCS from elbit or their HMD's they wont work even closer to the ones in Block 52+ because it is tailored for that aircraft.

You cannot get all of those sensors , radar etc on board your MKI's because you would have to change every god damn thing to get JHMCS working on par with F-16 C/D moreover you would need HOBS IR Missiles to support it which will raise the costs sky rocket.

I was thinks the implication that the introduction of laser weapons onboard aircraft may have. If they can somehow miniaturize the system then it will be a good defense against missiles and will put importance on TVC because a laser system is likely mounted near the front of the aircraft so that raises the need to point at the general target/threat location.

The thread makes it sound like they are two alternative technologies. Can't you have both? India is in the best position to have both. With long history of using Russian fighters and the present posture of warming up to Western countries having both is very possible. A Mig35 choice in MMRCA with Israeli avionics and HMCS for instance can do that.

A high energy laser for the F-35 is already being worked on. Here is a 2 year old article from Wired Magazine that explains work.

What’s Inside Darpa’s $21 Million ‘Liquid’ Laser? | Danger Room | Wired.com

"The 150 kW laser is meant to be integrated with an existing fire-control system and will demonstrate the ability to shoot down tactical targets including surface-to-air missiles and rockets. That would be quite something: a fighter jet which can shoot down any missiles fired at it." (that would give the S300/400/500 engineers headaches)

The laser would be on the bottom of the aircraft so you would not have to be pointed at the object. It would be powered by turbine with an output of around 150kw

The JHMCS is not restricted to A2A role but also it supports the synthetic aperture radar on the aircraft , Utilizes Sniper , Sensors too which is a great advantage over ground and sea based targets.

I would rather chose JHMCS over TVC.

If you are mentioning Su-30MKI the Topsight will only be integrated in future versions. The name is Sura-K.

And the future version is?

Something interesting to be noted.

Look at the round diodes over the helmet of EF - they help project information on Pilot's HMD where ever he looks.

IIRC, that piece of info is wrong, a common misconception. AFAIK, cannot find the source though, the HMCS for IAF aircraft come from versions of Israeli HMCS - the most advanced systems by far.
IAF Jaguars and MiG-27's (upgraded ones) carry this for their AtG role, while the Su-30 MKI has that for AtA role.

Correction: Emo Girl, you are right. It sure is Topsight E HMCS for IN MiG-29Ks.

here you go...

Cockpit instrumentation The displays include a highly customised version of the Elbit Su 967 head-up display consisting of bicubic phase conjugated holographic displays and seven liquid crystal multifunction displays, six 127 mm x 127 mm and one 152 mm x 152 mm. The HUD was widely misreported to be the VEH 3000 from Thales. Variants of the same HUD have also been chosen for the IAF's MiG-27 and sepecat-jaguar-shamsher upgrades, on grounds of standardisation.

How the F-35 Demon Helmet Looks Inside

"The panorama inside the helmet effectively makes the F-35 completely invisible to the pilot. In fact, he will be invisible to himself: If he looks down to his legs, he won't see anything but the ground. He will be able to look to any direction and get a clear view of what is happening, day or night. And not only the image is crystal clear at all times, but it also gets overlaid with information from the targeting system."

That has got to be hard to get used to at first for a pilot.

^^^That will be one masterpiece but will take the pilot some time to master...
I'll be freaked out if i get to wear one atleast for the first time.....

Does this mean that any time pilot see e.g totally backwards; plane is invisible & he will see the sky & the enemy plane approaching it??

Yes, day or night the DAS (distributed aperture system) has a 360 degree view That is just one of the features that sets the F-35 apart in it's electronics capability. The Pilot can look back target an aircraft behind him and fire. The missile (AIM 9X) will turn back towards the enemy aircraft.
